Perry's Story

I graduated from Johnson County High School in 1971. But whereas most of my classmates had lived in Johnson Co. their entire lives, I only went to school there three years after my Dad retired from the Army and we moved back. My family on both sides has been in Johnson Co. since the 1700s but I was not lucky enough to actually grow up there. I miss the place deeply but will probably never move back. My Dad died in March 2009. My Mom still lives in Butler. After high school, I worked at the Shoe Plant in the summer and then left to go to Kentucky to Berea College. I majored in History and PE and planned on teaching and coaching. But there were no teaching jobs. So I took a job working for county government which led me to law school. I had to keep working so I went to law school for four years at night, to the University of Louisville. I graduated in 1980. I did finally get a teaching job and taught for four years while I finished law school. I have been practicing law for almost 30 years and am finishing my 4th term as County prosecuting attorney. I also have a private civil practice...Expand for more

I have three grandchildren. I enjoy reading more than anything else. I use to paint which was very relaxing but don't anymore. I like to garden and fish, but don't have much time. I played sports and was involved in class activities, but I didn't do much else. I always wanted to be a baseball player when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were right. I read to relax. I probably blow off steam by working in the yard. The wildest thing I remember in High School was when Randall and I carried bunk beds that had been used in a play into Mrs, Ransom's homeroom and were lying in them when she came in. My hero is Ronald Reagan. We need him back. He made us realize how great our country is,
