Perry's Story

Graduated GHS in 1972 and went to Austin Peay State University that Fall as an Art Major - planning to become a commercial artist. But, to my complete surprise, soon became a Geology major. Who knew? Transferred to the University of Tennessee/Knoxville in 1975 to complete my degree. After graduation, became a geologist employed by Century Geophysical Corp, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Worked as an exploration geologist throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico and Texas. Missed Tennessee (and having a life what with working 16 hours days and never being home). nessee Department of Transportaion in Civil Engineering ever since. I am a highway designer - which is essentially a mix of engineering and an architect doing highway projects instead of houses. Married in 1984. Divorced in 2004. Two children. Daughter Katherine Arwen (Katie) 20 and a college sophomore this year. Son Jacob Perry (Jake) 14 and currently attending the same Magnet School his sister did. I have become more and more reclusive as the years have passed. And, pretty much, prefer it that way. I still cling to the dream of someday owning a log home on 5 acres of woods with no telephone.
