Pete's Story

Catch 'em up on what you've done and who you are: Married in March of 1966 to the girl I took to our Senior Prom. Started a family immediately, a son in October 1966 (Peter Jr.) and a daughter (Rose Ann) in September 1969. Have been blessed with two granddaughters: Brooke 10 and Bailey 8 - the loves of my life. In the photo, Bailey is to the left and Brooke is on the right. Started my corporate career in June 1966 with Air Reduction Co., Inc. in the Office Services Dept. and enrolled at Rutgers University's evening division in January 1967 as an Accounting Major. Promoted to the credit department in August of 1968 and have had a successful 40 year career in the Commercial Credit Management Profession. Advancing to a Director Level, have held the top credit management positions for Apex Records, Inc. (1971-76), GRT Corporation (1976-78), Atari, Inc. (1978-86), Businessland, Inc. (1987-90), Sega of America, Inc. (1991-93) and concluded my corporate affiliation with Youth Entertainment Systems Corp. (1993-99). Of all my corporate affliations, my association with Atari, the company that introduced Pong and TV Video Games was certainly the most exciting - Atari was a wholly owned subsidiary of WCI (Warner Communications, Inc.) and WCI, our parent organization, had a rich tradition in the Music and Movie Industries. I joined the management team that was credited with turning the company around and Atari became the fastest growing company in American Business History at the time. Within a short two year period, Atari's sales went from a mere $90 million to well over $2.5 billion. What a ride and an incredible experience. Atari was a first cabin operation and we spared no expense when it came to advertising, promotion and wining and dining our customers. I advanced to the position of Director, Worldwide Credit Operations & Customer Accounting and managed a department of fifty plus subordinates and had seven direct reports. In June of 1984 when the company fell on hard times and was sold to a group of private investors, I joined the "Transition Team" and managed the liquidation of a $250 million receivable. I also acted as a liason between WCI and the New Investors. These were difficult times and my task proved to be a very challenging assignment! It certainly tested ones resolve and a variety of management skills! Subsequent to my last corporate association with Youth Entertainment Systems Corp., started my own consulting company in the commercial credit management field. Our client list includes several high profile companies - Fritz Companies, Inc., Leapfrog Enterprises, Inc., Adac Labs, Inc., Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. and several small to medium sized firms. Moved to San Jose, California in September of 76' on a corporate promotion/relocation and have been in the San Francisco Bay Area since then. Purchased a lovely, 5 bedroom, 3 bath home with an in-ground pool on a cul-de-sac in the Blossom Valley Area of San Jose and this has been our residence for the past 32 years. Over the years, I've been back to the New Jersey Metropoltian Area on business and vacation no less than 250 times. Am a seasoned business traveler with over 3 million air miles traveling all over North America and have been to Europe (Monte Carlo, Principality of Monaco and Italy: Rome, Naples, Sorrento, Pompei and Capri), the Las Hadas Resort in Manzanillo, Mexico as seen in the Movie "10" with Bo Derek and Dudley Moore and spent two we...Expand for more
eks in the Tahitian Islands (Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora). Transferring 93 credits from Rutgers, am a graduate of the University of San Francisco - class of 91' with a dual major: Management & Accounting. By comparison to my high school days, my scholastic record in college was quite exceptional and earned Dean's List Honors. Earned my degree the hard way - completed my entire Undergraduate Program in the evenings. I enjoy golf and am a weekend warrior - 14 handicap. In August of 1992 was fortunate to play in the "Tournament of Stars" at the Silverado Country Club in the Napa Valley. This was a Star Studded Tournament complete with thousands of spectators lining the fairways and around the greens, and it was like playing in a PGA Tour Event. My moment of glory came on the 18th hole, a 520 yd, par 5. I was out 135 yards from the 18th green and put my third shot just 8 feet from the pin. As my ball hit the green, there was a loud, deafening roar from the spectator gallery and an eruption of applause - what a feeling! However, I wound up missing my birdie putt but pared the hole. The Tournament was managed by Hollywood Producer, David Wolper and his staff, for the benefit of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Greater Napa Valley. Sega of America was one of the Corporate Sponsors and me and my corporate associates had a great time! A cocktail hour and dinner followed the event with all the celebrities and it was certainly a memorable experience! We have also owned horses for the past twenty-nine years. My wife is the horse lover. We board the horses at Calero Farms just about 12 miles from our home. Calero Farms is adjacent to a 2,600 acre county park offering miles of riding trails and spectacular mountain-top views. Presently, we own two Arabians (a redish-brown Mare and a black Gelding). Our Mare is involved in a Handicap Childrens Program and all these special kids just love her. She's a very exceptional horse and she's very gentle and careful when these marvelous children are riding on her back. It's a very gratifying sight - it's almost as if she knows these kids are very special! My own children cared for their own horses growing up - they both recall great times and countless memories. This taught them responsibility and it kept them busy and out of trouble. I guess you could say there was a method to my wife's madness! Our favorite Charity is St Jude Children's Research Hospital. We have been avid financial supporters for several years. The hospital does amazing things for families and children. God Bless Danny Thomas - what a legacy! For those of you that are in a position to donate, kindly send your tax deductible donations to: P.O. Box 187, Memphis, TN 38101-0187. Any amount will be genuinely appreciated and will be put to good use in the Hospital's Campaign for the Cure of Childhood Cancer! It's been very gratifying to be in a position to "give back"! I have been blessed beyond measure - a wonderful family - a lucrative career, which I've loved and enjoyed - many friends and business associates and by the Grace of God, I've been in very good health. Yes, for the most part life has certainly been good, and I am very thankful! My Best Regards to the "Class of 65". Peter F. Paladino P.S. In June of 2009, I enrolled in the Keller Graduate School of Management and am working on my MBA in International Finance. I'll be graduating in February of 2011 and am maintaining a cumulative GPA of 4.0.
