izabeth. My dad actually got to play golf on one of the British bases near the dutch border. Little did I know then, that there was a small American military presence there guarding tactical nuclear weapons to be used by British, German or dutch forces against an attack by the commies to the east.Back then it was all top secret and hush hush.
Little did I know then that many years later in 1987 I would return to northern Germany on active duty with the US Army and be assigned to a similar unit that had custody of tactical nuclear weapons. Before my 3 year assignment ended , I witnessed first hand the fall of the wall and the end of the cold war with german reunification. what an amazing experience!
