Peter's Story
Life
I joined the Navy after graduation. After Basic I was assigned to the USS Cadmus AR-14 while awaiting a seat in a school. After 36 weeks of technical training, I was sent to the USS Dale DLG-19 to work on the Guided Missle system. I sailed from Philadelphia to San Diego via the Panama Canal with stops in Cuba, Panama City, and Acapulco. On the USS Truxton DLGN-35, I sailed from Philadelphia to Long Beach, CA going around South America with stops in Rio de Junero, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico. We then went west to Viet Nam. hip was the USS Belknap DLG-26. We sailed to the Mediterainian in 1973 for six months, went around South America in 1974, and back to the Mediterainian in 1975. My last ship was the USS South Carolina CGN-37. We sailed to the Mediterainian in 1979 and to the Indian Ocean for 9 months in 1980. By the time I retired, I had sailed around the world! I went to work for Sperry in 1981 as a Field Engineer. By 1988 I was a Field Operations Supervisor in Waterbury, CT. I had to medically retire due to MS in 1994, so we moved back to Virginia Beach, VA. I now do some Photography and watch my 5 grandchildren grow!
