Peter's Story

I am presentlylivingin AZ... (about three miles from John Barber). I have been retired from the Air Force for almost 21 years and it just seems to get better as time goes on. Moved here just over three years ago as we were tired of winter (Fargo, ND) and it has been great. Able to run or bike every day with a day set aside for golf and hiking in the Sedona area. We are pesentlyonourannual "grand baby tour" as we go north toSpearfish SD orHugo MN to see three of the six we have. It is a "blended family" as my first wife died in 1989 (leukemia) and I met Geni in1992 whenI was cycling across the US. My kids had bought me a bike the Christams after Kathy died and said, "Dad, you need to get out of the house" I guess the saying, be careful what you wish for,is true as I spent the next three years traveling parts of the world on my bike. I did meet Geni, so that was worth it. We are still biking, but must admit getting a little "soft" as we don't tent as much as we used to (spending the inheritance on US!). I recent had back surgery that was slowing me down, but what a difference since I had it done! Of course, even withmybadback, I seemed...Expand for more
to have a miraculous recovery every Tuesday (my golf day) and biking never bothered me, so that kept me motivated. We presently are down to16 bikes, but that may be something I shouldn't mention as it could be a sign of some other problem. Some time next week, we will load our bikes and ride around WI for a few weeks before Geni,s 50th reunion (did I mention that she is much older than I am?) in Iowa. I was in Northford for about 5 months in the last year helping withmybrother Paul.... He had gleo blastoma (brain tumor) that got the best of him after 17 months. I had plenty of time and it was a good opportunity to do whatever I could to help. We had some interesting times each remembering our version of life growing up and who was the most true to Mother's family recipes. We were able to have the six remaining siblings at Paul,s house for a Thanksgiving dinner that was as he wanted it... Better to get together for food than a funeral! If anyone is in our area, please stop by see us, we enjoy opening our house to anyone... We belong to Evergreen Club and we get bikers from Warmshowers. A neat way to meet people and share our home.
