Flying thru Pillow Like Clouds 4. With my son in Iraq as commander of his tank unit. Military Colonel Peter S. Janker Colonel Janker was born in Ayer, Massachusetts. He was raised in the Tacoma/Puyallup area of Washington State and graduated from John R. Rogers HS in 1975. In 1979, he graduated from Seattle University as a distinguished military graduate and was commissioned in the regular Army through the ROTC program as a Second Lieutenant of Cavalry. Colonel Janker’s initial assignment was as a Platoon Leader in Delta Company, 2nd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Bamberg Germany. Assignments within the Regiment included Platoon Leader of a Tank Platoon, Platoon Leader of a Cavalry Platoon, Headquarters and Headquarters Executive Officer, and Executive Officer for Echo Troop 2/2 Cavalry. For eighteen months he was the Regimental Border Officer and was responsible for over six hundred kilometers of East German and Czechoslovakia border. ned the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) where he was on the General Staff of the Commander in Chief Europe as his Automation Officer. Following his return to CONUS he was assigned to the Office of the Product Manager, Strategic Army Command and Control Software as a Product Release Manager. Following this assignment Colonel Janker was assigned to the Army Staff under the in the Army Chief of Staff’s Technology Management Office. While there he managed the Army’s Research and Development Special Access Programs. While assigned to the Army Staff he was also the Chief of the Sensitive Records and Information Agency. Selected for battalion command, Colonel Janker became the Product Manager, for the Combat Service Support Control system and was nominated by PEO C3S as the Product Manager of the Year for 1998. Following command, Colonel Janker became the operations officer for the Department of Defense Biometric Management Office. After attending the Army War College, Colonel Janker commanded the Armament Engineering Technology Center at Picatinny Arsenal New Jersey, where he deployed to Iraq on two occasions to provide critical weapon’s technology to the solders, sailors, airmen and marines engaged in combat operations. Colonel Janker is currently assigned to the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington D.C. Professional military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course, Armor Officer Advance Course, Joint Firepower Course, Combined Arms Service Staff Course, Command and General Staff College, Material Acquisition Management Course, Defense Systems Management College’s Program Management Course and the Army War College. Overseas assignments include: Germany; Belgium; and Bosnia. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Army Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, and the Army Achievement Medal. Colonel Janker is the recipient of the Army’s Draper Leadership Award for Armor Leadership for 1985. Colonel Janker is married to the former Dixie Lee Mohr of Hosmer, South Dakota. They have a son, Paul Leon who is a 2006 graduate of West Point and currently serving in Iraq.
