Peter's Story
Life
Mr. Morrison currently serves as a Departmental Deputy for the Naval Aviation and Weapons Department, Office of Naval Research, Department of Defense. He is a Subject Matter Expert (SME, and Staff Scientist in the Department of Defense. In this position, Mr. Morrison is responsible for reviewing, managing and directing extensive activities supporting integrated programs of basic research, exploratory development, and advanced technology efforts in a wide range of S&T areas. These research areas include aeromechanics, guidance, propulsion, electro-optical sensors, structural design, process chemistry, high energy state physics, computer automation and manufacturing, and other disciplines relating to new development used to meet future operational requirements of U.S. Department of Defense. Application contexts for his S&T contributions and responsibilities include aerodynamics, aerospace materials, rocket guidance, projectile ballistics, lethality, cost, readiness and weapons logistics, weapons safety, and naval and marine expeditionary force tactics and doctrine. During the previous eight years, Mr. Morrison worked as the principal naval ordnance advisor to the Director, Defense Research and Engineering, U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). ions for weapons systems and Associate Manager for Ordnance Research at the Naval Surface Warfare Center. His bench science experience was at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in White Oak Maryland. Mr. Morrison's research in underwater warhead technology and insensitive munitions led to the development and implementation of various innovations, and includes US Patent number 5010823. Mr. Morrison is a native of western Pennsylvania, but has resided in the Washington, DC area since 1983. He obtained a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and minored in Computer Science and Mathematics, graduating with research honours in 1983 from Geneva College in Beaver Falls Pennsylvania. Mr. Morrison continued his graduate studies after employment with the Naval Ordnance Laboratory at the University of Maryland, and then completed his Masters studies in Engineering and Applied Sciences at George Washington University in Washington DC with emphasis in analytical and numerical modeling of advanced anisotropic composite structures under hydrostatic loading. Mr. Morrison also has completed certification at the Defense Systems Management College in S&T Program Management. After hour hobbies include competitive Olympic style horseback riding, photography (film and digital), computer generated 3D art, and cooking.
Married in 1995 he lost his wife to diabetes in 2003. He has since remarried to his wife, Cindy DeGrood of Sacramento.
