Phil's Story
After I left CFA, I went off to Notre Dame. I majored in Rugby and a mix of engineering and liberal arts, graduating in 1965. I did pretty well playing Rugby. I was a mediocre student but good enough to get a "full ride" to the U of R graduate business school.
After getting my MBA it was off to IBM for 16 years. I left IBM to run a small company which I ended up selling to my largest competitor (no, it wasn't Microsoft or Google). After that, I went to a small start-up in New Hampshire where I ended up as the Marketing VP. The stock symbol is EPAY, if you care. My illness forced me to retire in 2002. Now my focus is hunting and fishing, reading, Yoga, Conservatism and most importantly, my family. I feel terrific!!
Nancy and I were married in 1971 and we have one daughter, Shana (b. 1979). Shana graduated from Trinity College, is married to a wonderful guy and brought into our life an adorable grandson. ll center in HS and a great rower (engine room) in college. She won numerous awards in college for her poetry.
Baby Teddy Russell was born in August, 2008 and has already taken over our lives.
Nancy is retired as well and we live in a private community in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts.
After college I continued to play Rugby on any club team in the area I lived. I've played for teams in Rochester, NY, Concord, MA, Fairfield, CT and Portsmouth, NH.
I played my last Rugby match in 2006 against a bunch of much younger players, despite a knee replacement and the baggage of a fairly serious medical event along the way. A couple of cracked ribs were the result that day. BUT DID I HAVE FUN? WOW!!!
I yearn to play another game but my wife, Nancy, would kill me, if the other team didn't.
Last year, I went to a reunion of one of my teams. I guess they didn't have time to update the PowerPoint slides as I was listed as "deceased". We all had a good laugh about that. Thank goodness I was still laughing.
