Phil's Story

Life First of all.... LIFE HAS BEEN GREAT FOR THE PAST 57 years! So here's my dissertation. After graduation from R. E. Lee HS in '64, I attended to University of Tennessee for 2 years. Then into the US Army. Did the OCS thing and got married. Then flight training at Ft. Stewart and Ft. Rucker. Then off to "you know where" flying O-1 Bird Dogs for a tour, and then Otters for another tour. Basically an Army bush pilot. DEROS to Ft. Polk in 1971. Our beautiful daughter, Jennifer, was born at Ft. Polk. Out of the military in '74 and back to UT to major in real estate. Got divorced in Knoxville and headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico where the sun shines 350 days per year. Snow skiing can be good here.. Back into the real estate biz, met a very special lady, got married again, and have been in ABQ ever since. I still love flying. I own and fly an O-1 Bird Dog restored to my Vietnam unit colors and configuration. My wife, Ardie, owns and flys a classic Cessna 182. ABQ is a bit isolated, and mobility is a plus. Ardie is now fully retired and resides full time in our comfy home in downtown Salida, CO, (population 5500). I still commute back and forth to ABQ. Got the car bug in high school. Have gone through many cool toys, and currently own and love my 2005 Porsche Boxster-S, a 2002 Victory 92 CI motorcycle, a great old '79 Yamaha XT 500 enduro, a cool old '83 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler, my dad's '84 Toyota mini- truck, and a 2017 Expedition to haul our travel trailer and the band equipment, . I'm still searching for a '54 Merc ragtop. I need a house with more garage space! I still love music. Yes, the PARIAHS still exist as a "partial" band. We reunion every few ye...Expand for more
ars at the family home at Tybee Island, GA, or at our second home in Salida, CO. Scott Roberts (Bass) lives in Edgewater, MD. We lost Marv Terry (guitar) a few months ago. He lived near Orlando, FL. We found our drummer, Woody Hinkle. He lives in Bethesda, MD. My wife sold her property management biz a few years ago and is now retired. I am now semi-retired as a Coldwell Banker Legacy real estate broker.. I love the biz and the great people I work with. Ardie and I have been hooked on the ocean kayak thing for many years, and I plan to explore the Arkansas River via river kayak soon. Fly fishing will undoubtedly enter the picture when I finally retire. However, I have too many filthy habits to support, and retirement may be 3 or more years away. I still play in a band here in ABQ. First group was Time Traveler (classic rock) with an evolution into Dangerous Curvz (also classic rock, but with two cute chic singers). I play bass with this band, and only occasionally hammer out some surf music (remember the PARIAHS?) on the guitar. Ardie and I are empty nesters now. My daughter passed away last year. Ardie's daughter and son have been on their own for many years. We have several wonderful grandkids, some of which we inherited through kid's marriages. Aren't extended families great?! Ardie and I attended the class of '64 30 year reunion in Springfield. We missed the 50th! Look us up if you are ever in the ABQ or Salida areas.. Ardie lives full time in our home in Salida, CO.. Coolest "Norman Rockwell" town in Colorado!! Great snow skiing at Monarch Mountain. At our tender ages, we ski for free! Sweet! Take care of yourselves. LIFE IS GREAT!!
