Philip's Story

Here's an UPDATED STORY. We are not who we were in high school so I hope this leads to better quality conversations at our class reunion (and whatever else)... Aside from a year in San Francisco, I have stayed in the Albany area, living now in Poestenkill near Troy. I have traveled extensively and love exploring the off-the-beaten-path corners of the world, but I enjoy living here in the country. Most of my 20's were about figuring out how to be happy while having a mother with schizophrenia (dad died when I was 20). Lots of family crises. Did the Landmark Forum in 1990 and my life turned on a dime. (Love to meet anyone else who has taken the course.) I took on being my mom's champion for her having a life of love and dignity. (Chose to live her too.) Difficult at times and then saw her through a hospitalization and got her on meds. Last 7 years of her life she was the mom we never dreamt of having. Transformed the whole family. She died from emphysema in 2007 and I had the honor of seeing her lovingly to the end of her life. Also from the Forum I started taking on being responsible for all my relationships and my own happiness. Decided not to end my relationship with my girlfriend, Linda, we wed 4 yrs later and now we're married (mostly quite happily) for 16 yea...Expand for more
rs. She's retired the past few years and has authored a book on the "Wildflowers of Copper Canyon" in Mexico. Being responsible for my life, I started taking on "managing up" at NYS Dept of Transportation. I am committed to having gov't really work well for all and I look for how I can make a difference. Currently I am leading a team studying how to pay for a new Tappan Zee Bridge near NYC. Quite a challenging and exciting opportunity. I also have led personal development seminars from Landmark Education for almost 18 yrs. Great training and I have loved it. Altho I just retired from that. What else? I have pretty consistently sucked at staying in communication with friends or family. This has been a new adventure for me - coming to the reunion, getting on Facebook, even trying Twitter briefly. What the heck, let's take it for a spin. For the last 15 yrs I have gotten back into competitive chess (a passion for the game) and even become the main organizer in Eastern NY for a few years. Big into traveling, photography, landscaping/gardening, living life fully, and just having fun. No kids, 3 cats - in fact I am a "cat whisperer" and volunteer at a local pet store. Okay that should give y'all some sense of who I have become and what I'm up to. Who wants to talk?
