Philip's Story
Phil was born in Asheville, North Carolina, but grew up in Eureka where he attended South Bay Elementary, Jacobs Junior High, Eureka High and Humboldt State University (2 years). He moved to Sacramento to complete college at Sacramento State University, and then attended McGeorge School of Law where he graduated with his J.D. in 1977 and passed the California Bar exam that same year.
Phil practiced law in Sacramento from 1978 to 1992 specializing in business litigation. He also served as the Minister of Music at his father's church in Sacramento (El Camino Baptist Church) during this time. He was ordained...Expand for more
as a Minister of the Gospel at that church in 1997.
In 1992 he was hired as Trust Counsel at the Baptist Foundation of California in Fresno, California. Philip worked at the Foundation for almost 30 years and retired as President in 2020.
Phil still serves as a Planned Giving Advisor for the Foundation and practices some law on a part time basis. He also finds time to speak at Men's Retreats and preach on occasion in Baptist churches primarily in Northern California.
Phil has been married to Debbie since 1978. They have four wonderful daughters, three amazing son-in-laws and seven outstanding grandchildren!
