Phillip's Story

Life Like a lot of us getting on up in years, I find it hard to believe that it’s been almost 40 years since we roamed up and down the halls of ol’ NPHS. The time has really gone by quick. Now let me think, do I really miss Ms Gruber’s English class; or Mr. Blackwell’s Biology class – yeah, I guess I do. Speaking of memories, have you taken a look at your yearbook lately? Boy, are there some goofy pictures in there – some of them really crack me up. When you’re young and stupid, and people tell you that your life will pass by so quickly, you don’t have a clue what they’re talking about, because you’re too busy enjoying life. Enjoying life when your young, and living life when you’re older sure is different. I miss those days of innocence and good times – the world sure has changed. I’m sure like most of us have probably thought about from time to time, we wish we could go back and change a lot of things if we could – I know I sure do. They’ve even torn down our old school – how sad is that? My life up to now has been pretty normal I guess. After graduation, I did several things not really knowing what I wanted to do with my life. I got married a couple of years after graduation. That didn’t work out. I started flying in 1983. It was something I always wanted to do. I went to Purdue and Spartan School of Aeronautics for flight and aircraft maintenance training. I’ve started two charter companies for the Greenwood and Seymour airports. I’ve also started and operated a flight school. I wanted to move on to bigger and better things, and so that’s where I a...Expand for more
m today. I fly charter aircraft for First Wing Management, LLC, out of Eagle Creek Airport in Indianapolis. My family and my aviation career have been the two real joys in my life. My second marriage was a lucky charm. She, her name is Vickie, has really been an encouragement in a lot of things that have happened to me, and we’ve been through a lot of things together. She’s been putting up with me for twenty five years, this August, and I have to commend her for that. I have three kids, all grown with kids of their own. I have seven grandkids as you can see from my photos. They are a real joy to be around. I like to ride my Harley Davidson Fatboy, play golf, and go to Hot Rod car shows. I’d like to have a car that’s been customized by Chip Foose or Boyd Coddington some day, but unless I win the lottery, that will never happen. I’d really like to go to the Barrett Car Auction in Scottdale, AZ., and be able to bid on some of those cars. There are some really nice automobiles that go through that place. Again, that takes me back to the lottery thing. Well, I just wanted to let everyone (the ones I grew up with those twelve years at New Palestine) know that I’ve thought of you often and the times we had together are good memories. I’d like to see all of my old classmates and friends sometime. I hope there will be a 40th reunion. I hope that all my friends have had a good life, and have been successful and prosperous. College Purdue University and Spartan School of Aeronautics Workplace I fly charter for a aircraft management company in Indianapolis.
