Phillip's Story

Life Alright, to keep this shorter than the other bios, I was born and raised in Chino, CA. I moved out of my dad's place in Chino when I was 18 and went to live with my mom in Hesperia, CA. I lived there for 4 and a half years, then moved back down the hill to Long Beach, CA where I lived for 14 months before moving to a place in Buena Park, CA. I lived there for 18 months or so, and then moved back to the place in Long Beach where I'm currently living now. I'm a high school graduate, but my college degree is probably a few years away. I joined the military at age 20 and was deployed to Iraq once so far. I've been in the army for 5 and a half years and will be in for another 5 and a half at least. Life is good, but sometimes difficult. I just can't wait until I get my college degree and have a good job and have stability in my life, so I'm not living from paycheck to paycheck, hoping that I can stay afloat. School School....well I started out at Dickson Elementary, Chino, CA in '86 and moved to Newman Elementary, Chino, CA in '90, then back to Dickson in '92. Attended Ramona JHS, Chino, CA for 7th and 8th, then Don Lugo for high school. After graduating, I attended MT SAC (Don Lugo continuation school)for a year, then dropped out and have been working ever since. Crushes is a stupid thing to put on here because I probably had 100's of them through the years. Teachers, I'm sure I had one or two I liked. They all had influence on my life in one way or another and I'm thankful for everyone, no matter how much or little I liked them. I can't remember specific moments that will stick in my mind forever. I know that my Junior year was my favorite year in high school because of my car (75 Dodge Van, yellow). If you remember it, then you remember good things, I'm sure. I always liked school and I liked ditching. Then I got to MT SAC and I hated it. I couldn't pay for school. I didn't even hardly go, I hated it. I don't think I'll ever go back, but notice I didn't say never. That's about it for school. Military Um, yeah, I don't know why I joined the military. It was just something that I...Expand for more
did. I didn't do it for the money (because there's little money to be made) and I didn't really do it for God and country. My parents certainly didn't approve. I think I moreso just did it for myself. I think I just wanted to become a more disciplined person and respect MYSELF more. I did join before 9/11, so that didn't influence my decision at all. I'm not sure if I still would have joined if 9/11 had already happened. I just don't know. Anyway, I ended up signing the paperwork on Jan 5, 01 and I started basic training at Fort Benning on May 11, 2001. I graduated basic on July 12, 01. I then went straight to AIT, or advanced individual training, a fancy phrase for army school. I graduated distinguished honor grad of my class (so not like high school) on November 7, 2001. The day after that, I was done. I was only a reservists, so I was back home the next day and then went on to do the 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks during the summer thing. It was a great ride until Jan 9, 05, when I got called up to go to Iraq. I was activating on the 15th, so I had 6 days to get my life stored up in a bottle while I went off to fight a war! Yeah, that sucked. I activated and mobilized out of Fort Hood, Texas from Jan 15th to February 26th. We left the country on February 27th and arrived in Kuwait on February 28th. We stayed in Kuwait for ten days and flew up to Iraq on March 8th. I was in Balad, Iraq which is about 60 miles north by northwest of Baghdad. It was a great place to be, that is, if you had to be in Iraq. I was there for about 11 months, and left Iraq on February 1st, 06. We stayed in Kuwait for just under 24 hours and left on the 2nd. We arrived in Ft. Hood, Texas on the 2nd very late at night. We were at Ft. Hood for 6 days and all went home on the 8th. That's the saga. Yeah, there's a little more to it, but I'm not going to spell it ALL out on classmates, you know? Now I'm just back to my normal 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks during the summer thing. It'll be fun, I'm sure. Oh yeah, and I reenlisted in Iraq for a fat bonus, so I'm in the army until January 4th, 2012. Fantastic, right?
