Phillip's Story
Life
I got my first motorcycle in Highschool and did wheelstands in the parking lot with it. I've gone a total of 9 hours without one ever since. I have two motorcycles now, and ride regularly.
After Highschool, I did a tour of duty in the Navy. I was a machinist-mate in the Nucleor Power Program and served aboard the destroyer, John S. McCain DDG36 and the nuclear submarine, Tinosa SSN606. I came out of the Navy an 2nd class petty officer (E5) and a Stationary/steam engineer.
After the Navy, I went to work as an Engineer for the L.A. Times on Sunflower in Costa Mesa. I was there for fve years during the transition from Cold-type to Photo-Engraving. That's ancient history now. Today they go straight from the computor to the press.
I did two years at O.C.C. as an art major and started my apprenticeship as a tattoo artist while I worked for the L.A. Times. More about being a tattoo artist in a bit.
I'm an avid scuba-diver, having been all over the world looking for excellent dives. The Salomon Islands are my favorite, anywhere in the Carribean comes next. My last "out of area" dives were in Jamaica. California, from Monterey to Fort Bragg is were I started out and where I dive most often. I taught Scuba diving as a hobbie for ten years, retiring from teaching in 2005.
I'm also into sailing. I've crewed aboard three different Clipper ships of 200+ft. on seven different occasions, and came to love the Carribean doing so. But, sailing a 40' Ketch on San Francisco Bay is what usually makes my day.
My maim profession has been as a tattoo artist for the last 30+ years. I've owned my own studio in Sacramento for 31 years, ...Expand for more
after owning a studio in Santa Ana for 10. My career started as an apprentice at the Long Beach Pike. During my professional career I've recieve numerous awards and recognitions. My art has been published in books, magazines and trade journals. I'm member #7 of the National Tattoo Association, and have lectured on tattooing in Colleges and High Schools through out California.
I have one daughter, one son-in-law, and three granddaughters. My daughter and granddaughters are the lights of my life.
I've been married and divorced more than once. I am currently single, but looking for a committed partnership.
I've turned a warehouse that I own into a Steampunk Art Gallery. My Tattoo Studio and warehouse are in north Sacramento situated in an area being redeveloped as the Arts and entertainment district. Lucky for me.
In my life, I've rubbed noses with sea lions in the wild and swam next to great Hammerhead Sharks in the Galapagos Islands. I've jumped out of perfectly good air planes and sailed clipper ships from Trinidad to Antigua and back again. I spent a year on a nucleor submarine and have a million miles of motorcycling behind me. I've tattooed the famous and the not so famous. I've truely lived a charmed life. And I'm not done yet...
.I'm also in the process of writing a quadrilogy Dime-Novel series based on the exploits of an air-ship in 1910 called "The Haleon Chronicles", with the four first issues available on Amazon and Kindle. I've done all the artwork that accompanies the stories as well. Four more stories are in the works, with an unknown number still to come. Take a sneak-peak at Haleonchronicles.com.
