Phyllis's Story

Life I can't put my bio in 4000 words, let alone 4000 characters! I've moved over 40 times, started a private practice in psychology about 10 years ago, drive 2 hours a day & have found my 4-wheel-drive truck is vital. It floods around here (around here being my driveway, yard, & my pastures). I raise Miniature Donkeys, have 3 African Grey parrots, dogs & cats and am having more fun than ever in my life! I've been divorced forever, look for an new relationship from time to time but am keeping too busy to worry much about it. A new bf would have to know how to run fence anyhow--I think that's a pretty rare ability! Besides he'd have to put up with my critters & me, as well as long-term remodeling. I've had an interesting time so far in my life, have rarely been bored, and have seen a lot more than the majority of people have. Part of that is professional--I estimate I've worked closely with over 30,000 people in the last 30 or so years....yes, it does sound like a contradiction in terms, but it's not :). I've lost track of a lot of old friends I'd like to hear from. Phyllis School I moved every year or two, so didn't know a lot of people well. Those that I did know well, I treasured. I'm fortunate to still or again be in touch with some of them. I had a terrible crush on a guy a year ahead of me at MacArthur. Went out on a double date with him once,...Expand for more
but he was with the other girl. Wish I remembered more than his first name! College George Mason, Washington U. in St. Louis, American U., Texas A&I Corpus which has changed names so many times I don't know what it was called then or what it's called now, New Mexico State, Washington State. U fpr the PhD. Urg.... continuing education hours beyond count Workplace I joined the Navy after college and spent 2 years in a training squadron (VT-28) in Corpus Christi. Got out, got married, and went back to school and completed a MS and PhD. Then I got my first job in my field, running a small rural community mental health center. Following that, I worked in a state psychiatric hospital for several years in acute care and evaluation--lots of people in very bad shape. I burned out, moved 3000 miles and did employee assistance for a number of years. That ended in another major move, several brief jobs, and opening my own psychology practice about 10 years ago. It sounds very cut and dried, but was not. It has been an event-filled time with lots of changes, adventures, and need to practice my survival skills. My practice is expanding. I have one colleague and am looking to recruit a second. I work in a rural area with very limited mental health services. Although I work with people of all ages, I spend most of my time with kids and teenagers. That keeps me young.
