Phyllis's Story
Life
I have had two successful careers: teaching music (10 years) in Bayville, L.I. and Englewood Cliffs, N.J. and then in being in private practice as a licensed professional counselor (psychologist), specializing in stepfamilies and owning a Mars-Venus Counseling Center. I enjoy working with John Gray, author of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus..........I have a wonderful 33 year old son, Jared, who is a music teacher, choral directorand musical theatre producer. My 2 wonderful step children are in their 40's and I have a 17 year old grandson. I moved up to Woodstock from Rockland County in 2000 to downsize and enjoy life. I just (2012) moved back to Suffern to be closer to Jared and his family. I am still waiting to find the "love of my life". Maybe he's from high school???
College

he old music department in the stables of the P.T.B. estate. I spent most of my time there and in my dorm studying. Darien Hall was an old mansion and I thought it was the best place to live on campus. I remember my R.A., Miss Doris May and our housekeeper, Mary. I went home almost every weekend to see my boyfriend/fiance. Looking back, I am sorry that I didn't let myself enjoy an active social life there....I've been looking for my first roommate named Kar Horn... I received my first master's from C.W. Post College (L.I.U.) in music ed. and psychology. I returned to grad. school in the 80's and received 3 more degrees, also from L.I. U. but from the Mercy College Campus. These diplomas were in counseling, school counseling and family counseling. I also was awarded the "distinguished alumni award"--L.I.U's version of an honorary doctorate in the early 90's for my work in counseling stepfamilies.
