Phyllis's Story

I left the following information about myself over four years ago. since then no one has contacted me so I am cancelling my membership to Classmates. I am on Facebook as Hope Lemen. If anyone would like to get in touch with me, I will welcome the correspondence. Please be aware though, I do not look at Facebook on a regular basis, so please be patient if I do not get back to you right away. Best wishes to all of you. I was Phyllis Garner back in 1964 and attended Gallatin County High School through my junior year. In the summer of 1964, I married my wonderful husband and moved to Covington. We had a daughter in April 1965. Then I returned to school and finished my senior year at Holmes High in Covington. But, since I attended Gallatin County schools for eleven years, my heart remains there. I would love to attend a reunion for the Class of 1965 and see my old classmates. Shortly after high school graduation, I began working for Western Union in Cincinnati. (where my husband also worked). It proved to be a very good job. After five years with WU, both my husband and I were offered a transfer of work to a new facility located near St. Louis, Missouri. ...Expand for more
Pretty quickly, I worked my way up to management. My career with WU spanned 41 years and my husband was with them for over 45 years when they finally closed our facility. Over 1200 people lost their jobs. Most of the work was sent to Mexico, Costa Rica, and Canada. During my career with WU, I graduated from college and joined the Army Reserves and had three more children. Also, I started going by my middle name which is Hope. I've had a very busy and happy life. Oh, I forgot to mention that I had two of my children when I was way too young and the other two, I had when I was way too old. So I now have a son attending college and a daughter that is still in high school. My eldest daughter has two children that are older than two of her siblings. (Ha! Ha!) They have certainly kept us young. There are so many things going on in the world today that probably would have went right over my head if I had not had my last two children. We were not planning to retire until we were both over 66 or even 70. Life is full of surprises. My husband found a job after about six month, but I continue to look. In the meanwhile, my teenage daughter keeps me very busy.
