Doug's Story
Remember me?
I'm the kid that didn't seem to ever come to class the entire senior year.
I played the tuba in the band, which was probably the only class I regularly attended too.
John Van Skike and I used to wrestle on the grass every now and then, laughing when he pounded me in the ground.
Tim Nelson, Danny Pope, and Shane McClure were the guys I hung around with most the time. I remember Roberta (Bobby) Robbers too, and Cindy Avilla as friends.
My heart-throb was Marian Keller who was,in my opinion, the cutest baton twirler I'd ever seen. She was so cute in that VW bug she tore around in.
Well, I didn't graduate high school, of course, but sat in the bleachers on that June 73 graduation day and watched all my friends getting their diplomas. ink I could make it to college classes any better? I tried it for a year and instead found some local jobs to fill the time for another.
In 75 I joined the military and spent the next 6 1/2 years clearing my head and settling down (somewhat). Got married in 79, had a baby boy, got out of the military in 82, moved to Oregon and finally went back to school. Worked for 28 years for the state of Oregon, retiring in 2013 as a financial analyst, which surprises everyone, including me.
Now I ride my Harley, socialize with like-minded veterans, and travel with my wife and our travel trailer to visit my son and his family in Las Vegas twice a year. Life seems good. I hope I hear from some folk from my past . I have free time more and more and wouldn't mind visiting and saying hello again.
