Life
Class Of '82! Class of '83! Where Are Ya? Come and see me on Facebook! I know, I know..Walt and I moved back and forth from Havelock to Camp Lejune and back to Havelock just before the 1982 graduation! I graduated from Havelock High Class of '82 (Go Rams!), but we also made great friends with the Classes of '82 and '83 at Lejune High.
I am married to Anthony Smart. Alot of people thought that I married Jamel (Hey Havelock, remember him?) because my last name is Smart. Anthony has been my lover and my best friend for 21 years now. He is from Trinidad, West Indies/Queens, NY. We have 3 sons, aged 26 (married/Army), 25 (single/Navy), and 19 (single/Norfolk State University). We also have the world's cutest grandsons (our oldest son's babies). Now don't get it twisted..I am a Gi-Gi and not a Grandma! I am NOT ready for that title..yet. (Smilz)
I was also an Account Executive/Office Coordinator at AppleOne Employment for 3 years. I was the Executive Assistant for the Peden Companies and the Sr. RVP for Pre-Paid Legal here in VA.
My hobbies are spending time with my family, jazz music(collecting a library for my legacy-Joe Sample, Billy Strayhorn, Grover Washington, Jr. Pat Metheny, Rachelle Farelle, etc.), Nu soul (Jill Scott, Kindred, Floetry, the Platninum Pied Pipers are some of my favs), gospel music (Fred Hammond, Adrianne Archie, Antonio Neal, Shekinah Glory) ..really ALL music that has a positive groove and message.
I love poetry(I am a poet also)/spoken word slams/venues, jazz resturants/concerts, museums, art exhibits, concerts, festivals, plays, dining out, movies and anything that enhances my life. I am still one of the best Pittsburgh Steeler Fans (Go Steelers!) and I love attending football/outdoor sports events and games. I am writing 3 books as we speak. They have been in process for the past 7 years.
Guess what? I am also a minister; my husband too. Yeah guys..the prayers FINALLY caught up with me!(LOL) I still dance too! I just have a diffrent heart. Don't get me wrong, but get me right...I'm still earthy, fun-loving, down-to-earth, witty, urban, essentric, true-to-the cause Portia, but the purpose for the life I live is definately Christ and His Kingdom first! says you have to dry up just because you're saved. I actually think that I am cooler now than I was in school! (LOL) We serve faithfully here at our church here in Newport News,VA. The Lord has been good to us. Life is really worth living when you choose the right path to walk on!
Out of all of the ups and downs and valleys of life, one thing I DO know..no matter where we lived...we've always had good friends, lots and lots of laughing, some tears, good music, and fun!

Workplace
I am currently a Sales and Catering Assistant at The Crowne Plaza Hotel Williamsburg at Ft. Magruder. Hotel Sales Managers HAVE to work weekends--this is why I choose to remain an assistant. We have an "empty nest" now and it allows me to be a little more flexable. This property is also closer to my home.
I was the Executive/Sales & Catering Assistant at the Renaissance Hotel in Portsmouth. I've worked there on and off for 6 years (also as a Human Resources Assistant). Both hotels are owned by Crestline Hotels. I'm working there on-call/part-time status. I like driving, but I dont miss the Hampton Roads morning commute from the Peninsula to the Southside! (LOL)
I also have a business that I have been working "on the side" for 10 yrs or so. I do resumes/grant writing/office documentations/image consulting, and pretty much anything needing outstanding executive/administrative/small business/support. My clients and friends have urged me to go full-time with the business. This is pending as of now. I used to be a Wedding Consultant, but couldn't deal the the crazy families of the bride and groom! I still do some minor Event Planning for a few close friends.

In the past, I've worked in various retail stores and in other executive/office capacities. And I can't forget how we all started out in a fast-food restaurant during our young adult/teen years!
Military
My husband retired from the US Navy 3 years ago. He did most of the travel, but the kids and I basically stayed here in the Hampton Roads area.
