Rachelle's Story
People seem to have a problem saying my name now. Everyone back home knew how to pronounce it. But Texans wanted to call me Rachel, or Raquel. So I just shortened it up to Shelly. My brother always just called me Shell. So it works.
I recently moved to Washington State. My husband, Jim, rejoined the military and he got stationed at Ft. Lewis. My oldest son, Jimmy, is stationed in Vincenza, Italy. He's 19 years old. I drove here from Houston, TX with our other two kids, John and Katie. They're 17 and 15. We brought our kitty, Josie, with us. She was definitely NOT happy with the move. But she has adjusted. We will be staying here while Jim goes to Iraq. We are planning to drive back through KS either in August or next year.
Jim drove an 18-wheeler for 15 years after getting out of the Army in '93. I stayed home until 2002. I love movies so much that I went to work for Hollywood Video in Missouri City, TX. While there, I met several minor celebrities. Matt Lavine is a meteorologist for Fox 26 in Houston. Pretty cool, huh?
Then we moved north of Houston and I started working at Target. I have continued my employment here with the local store. I really want to go back to college, so I am going to take advantage of the Army bill. I'd really like to get a business degree so I can go back into Target and say "Yes, I'm the L.O.D. (leader on duty)". But I'd also like to get into criminal investigations. I like to watch C.S.I.
and N.C.I.S. Abby is so awesome.
Jimmy went to the Army and learned computers. Jim went back in and learned to fix generators. Neither one will be asked to kick in doors. I'm thankful becaus...Expand for more
e if Jim had to go back in as a truck driver he'd constantly be under fire.
Both John and Katie are going to finish High School and then probably go to college. John's not too positive about his future, but there's talk he might go into computers, too. Katie would really like to go into Culinary School.
All three of my kids love to cook. Jimmy even has a recipe in a cookbook!
I'll never have to worry about them starving to death. Ha Ha Ha! They also know how to do their own laundry.
Jimmy really was glad he knew that little task. No tie-dyed t-shirts for him! Katie is a wonderful little cook and she keeps my kitchen running when I have to work late on weekends. She really kicks into high gear when it's time for tacos. We make guacamole, and pi-co De gal-lo. A little taste of "Tex-Mex" that we miss.
Well, here it is a year later...
Jim is just back from Iraq. Jimmy has been in Italy a full year. I am no longer employed by Target. A little bit of miscommunication and I am listed as a job abandoner! Jim's mother passed away this year and we made the long journey back to TX with the whole family. I came back to WA and found they couldn't wait for me to return to work. So a few months later, I started putting in applications for the base exchange. I now work at AAFES! Jim has reenlisted for another 5 years and got his choice of duty stations. We're going back to TX!!! We will be moving very soon.
I am no longer wishing to be in business, but I am going to see where college can lead me. I want to take Homeland Security and Emergency Management with a minor in Criminal Psych. I think this will be a good match.
