Ralph's Story
Hmmmm...I guess we start at graduation form LHS in 1972. Actually, I graduated early in January and worked downtown at Hunter College. Then on to Mercy College where I played basketball, became team captain and had a great time playing basketball. I graduated with a BA in Psych and certification in Education/Special Education and got a job at the Clearview School where I taught for 5 valuable years. I then moved on to the Hutchinson School in Pelham Schools for two years before finding my forever job in Putnam Valley Schools where I taught for 28 years. I taught 4th grade for the first 19 years and then moved to the HS where I also coached Boys Basketball, Girls Volleyball and Girls Lacrosse. I also kept busy with stints being the teacher's union president, chief negotiator, and grievance ch...Expand for more
airperson.
All the while, I was performing as a magician under the name The Amazing Mr. Smith at parties, summer camps, libraries, etc. I married my wife and we had our daughter living in Putnam Valley.
Fast forward and I retired in 2011 and began an active retirement with jobs like tutoring, lifeguarding, and refereeing volleyball throughout Westchester/Putnam schools. I was elected to the Putnam Valley School Board for 2 three-year terms and then was elected to the Putnam Valley Town Board where I currently serve as a Town Councilman. I still stay active by playing pickleball and traveling to tournaments.
I hope all my fellow alumni from both P.S. #4 and LHS are enjoying their later years and, as I always say, "Stay off of the Easel" at reunions that honor our classmates who have passed on.
