Ramiro's Story
For my older friends at Southgate and Northside Jr Hi in Corpus. I have very many fond memories of Southgate. Especially going out through Ben Garza Park and walking to play softball during recess. I remember going to Las Palmas grocery store and selling bottles we found for spending money. Northside also holds many memories. First year there was going downtown to Woolworth to eat lunch when we could afford it. I learned to swim at the YWCA when we went there during P.E. We used to hang around the old band hall on top of the hill. Can't remember why but we went there. Our football field was a few blocks away also. I guess, except for the school, we had to do alot of walking. At the end of the 1963 schoolyear I went to live in Mcallen with my grandmother. Graduated there in 1966.
Joined the Air Force Jan '67. Vietnam Jun '69-Jun '70. Married Jane Fuller, PSJA, Aug 69. Spent the best four years of my life in Germany. Retired USAF in 1987. Retired again from Civil Service Nov 2000. Have one daughter(only child) born in Bossier City, LA, Live in Niederwald, TX about 20 mil...Expand for more
es south of Austin. Being an average student I did something I never thought I could do. I ran and was elected to the Del Valle, Tx schoolboard. Served for five years. I was a sports agent from 1994 to 2002. I represented Dick "Nighttrain" Lane, NFL Hall of Famer during that period. Through his association, I met and partied with many of my sports heros that I grew up watching. Also made good friends with Dale Robertson, Tales of Wells Fargo TV fame. We continue to be friends to this day. Never in my life, growing up, did I ever figure that my later years would lead me to visit every country in Europe and party with many of my sports heros. Contact me if you remember me. Had very uneventful 3 years at McHi. Football and Track were my sports. Gave up football when my cousins, who played for Edinburg, threatened to break my legs if I played for the Bulldogs. Needed my legs for track, so I gave up football. Do have some fond memories of several friends, which I have lost contact with. Hope to hear from anyone that remembers our formative years at Southgate, Northside and McHi.
