Randall's Story
If any of you recall me at all, you might remember I was a geek LONG before it became so fashionable!
I moved to Boise after my freshman year in Fairbanks Alaska.
After graduating Borah in 75, I got a 3-year Associates from Idaho State and was recruted by Tektronix in Portland, Oregon. I've been here ever since.
Professionally, I was a Technician for 12 years and have been an Engineer for the past 25 years. I've worked for about 10 Portland-area companies over my 31 years here - such is the High Tech industry.
Mileposts of note: I wrote songs, sang and was Lead Guitarist in a Portland-area Christian Rock band (circa 1985), married a CPA classmate from Fairbanks Alaska, travelled to Britain, Thailand and Taiwan, put many miles on several motorcycles, ran my own IT business for 2 years, built about 6 electric guitars and own many more, designed and built the guitar amp I've used for 25 years, was co-inventor on a patent, have a bunch of proprietary inventions that I don't own and can't really talk about, and I have the coolest step-daughter a guy could have! I think she is a lot...Expand for more
like me and not much like her Mom. She has my (oil stained) genes somehow!
Although I did ROTC and Drama in my Sophomore year, I wasn't much involved at Borah except for Chuck Hornaday's Electronics classes (no surprise here). When I received my Professional Engineering license in 1999, I wanted to thank Chuck for the classes, the link to ISU, and several judiciously placed swift kicks in the butt he gave me over the years.
Sadly, I found he had died just a few years earlier. He was a great mentor, teacher, and a close friend. For a former Marine Drill Instructor, he had a heart of gold and was a fine Christian man. If, perchance, his daughter (in Washington I think) ever reads this, I hope she takes heart in my memory of her Dad.
Other Borah friends I recall are Steve Blanchard, Mark Megahan and Mike Mead. I call Chris Lowe every decade or two. There are others, but names are foggy (sorry - engineer brains). I recall a great guitarist classmate named Steve Clohessy (I think) who graduated in 73. Anyone know whatever happend to him?
