Randall's Story
Life
For the 3 years immediately following graduation I worked for Hanes Printables. Where I quickly discovered I needed to go back to school. I have expensive tastes and the mill just didn't pay.
At FTCC I earned a graphic arts degree. This is also where I meet my wife Carrie. A beautiful woman who recived her education from UNCW in English Literature.
Carrie and I both worked in Graphic Arts for 3 years. Until we began to have kids. At which point I decided to go back to school once again.
At WSSU I earned a BSN, also while in attendance at WSSU I founded a fraternity for nurses (the first of itÂs kind in the USA) of which I am very proud. Beta Sigma Nu is dedicated to promoting men in the field of nursing while tearing down the myths associated with the ÂMale Nurse.Â
After graduating and passing my State Boards I went to work on the Neurosurgical floor for NCBH. Being a Nurse is a thankless job. Despite what the media portends Nurses don't make squat. Hence the most profound nursing shortage this country has ever seen...Expand for more
(but I digress). I got tired of being under appreciated and after 3 years with Baptist Hospital I went to work for Partners National Health Plans as a Senior Medical Services Coordinator. I am now in a career I enjoy immensely, working for Partners a division of Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC.
Carrie and I have 3 beautiful daughters who attend a private Christian school within a few miles of our home in Davidson County. Family is so important to me, we attend church at the same place where my children attend school. My wife is an office manager for a home service organization. My children are active in sports & music. Life is really good.
My drive to succeed in my chosen field has led me to persue my MPHA. I plan to attend UNC Chapel Hill in Public Health Care Administration.
Workplace
I worked at NCBH on 5 Ardmore in Neurosurgery it was hell on earth and I don't miss it one bit. The director/manager for this unit made this floor an unpleasent place to work for nurses. I would never go back to work for this person ever.
