Randi's Story

Thirty years gone and it seems like yesterday. I met a beautiful, sweet, wonderful woman from just over the river in Quaker Springs. We dated for about 7 months, fell in love, and married when I was 20 years old. Tonya, my wife was 18. We were married 27 years and had two wonderful children. My son Geremy 26 years old has a good life in Florida now. My daughter Shannon 22 still lives with me. She is moving into an appartment in the spring. My marrage ended about a year ago although it was over before that. We are sepperated now, working on a devorce. It's a very long, weird story. I will tell you about it but you have to ask. Between then and now there have been many ups and downs as you all know that's what life is. I have interviewed only once in my life and had two jobs in the last 28 years. I worked for Troy Built, "Gardenway" for 16 years started as a technicion , I have always had a talent to fix things even if I knew nothing about them. Moved up to a lead position with 26 employees under me. I really never completely got away from fixing things. I was very well liked as a lead. People seemed to draw to me, even when I was tough on them. That seems to fallow me everywhere I go, with whatever I'm doing. It's weird because I like to blend in, but I find everyone surrounding me at the end of the night. I still don't understand that. When Troy Built went out of bussiness, my boss brought me with her to a Xerox account. Never interviewed, the account was in big trouble. We were an outsource group working a Blue Cross account. The account was on a 90 day notice. We turned it around and got a new 12 year contract with them. I was a lead, technician, quality control position there. That is my work life up intil now. Watching my kids grow up and spending quality time with them was an important part of the last 23 years. My wife and I did some traveling to exotic...Expand for more
spots throughout the years. The family vacations were great. Being a family, good and bad was incredible. We all learn about ourselves in those times. When your back is against the wall there are two choices. You fall down, or you come out on top no matter what it takes. That's when I am at my best. One of my biggist challanges through out the years was a fight with depression about many things. The state of my marrage being one, there were other things also, but that was most of it. I smoked two packs of ciggarettes a day, and gained weight over time. I had gotten up to 287lbs. It was terrable, I was ashaimed. After a few months like this, I woke up one morning and said the hell with this. I feel like crap. Life is to short and it's time to turn it back around. Starting on that very day, I stopped smoking, and started my own diet and work out routine. I lost 90 lbs. in the first 3 months, and 30 more in two more months. 120lbs in 5 months. I was down from 287lbs. to 167lbs. That weight was to light. I didn't feel strong. I setteled in at 185lbs where I feel good. I never smoked another ciggarett from that first day either. I am very proud of that. Many, many other things have happened over the years also. They were good for the most part, but there were some very trying times also. Just ask and I will tell. One day at a time, and make the very best of it you can. That's how I live now. My next challange is finding that special someone to share the rest of my life with. That spark you see, that turns into a fire. It never burns out. That's my biggest challange yet. I will not settle, I will know when I meet her. I never quit until I suceed anymore. You pick yourself up and keep trying you get what your searching for. Attitude is everything. Respect, Honesty, and good communication goes a long way. Being a hoppless romantic doesn't hurt either.
