Since moving to Kansas in 1990 so much has happened. I faced discharge from the service, after my prior service drug use came to the surface. During this same time my divorce was in full swing, I was promoted, change careers (within the Air Force), and moved to Kansas. (The best part about getting the drug use thing out of the way , was being able to help in a program for youth in chemically dependent homes and in my home church). The ability to reach out and help others has been so rewarding and an avenue for personal growth. My life is based on Christian ethics, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; which helps me make it through each and every day. As I have come to realize, especially since moving to Kansas, change is a constant in life. The four seasons of the Midwestern states, living away from family, and being single all help me to relate the four seasons of the year to events in life. Cold, hot, wind, and drought...all contribute to the experience of the cycles of life. Using this as a way to describe life since living here in Kansas probably comes as a result of having survived a tornado, only five months after arriving here. Like many people say after experiencing a "life changing event," I used that as an inspiration to try new things. I married a wonderful Christian woman, and became the (step)father to two terrific daughters: Jacque, 16, and Kathryn, 12. They both love horses, are very beautiful and intelligent. PS: If I haven't mentioned it yet, I have published poetry on w3 dot poetry dot com. One has even been published in an International poetry collection. Dec 2005: Who says that you don't get a second chance? Georgana and I have surpassed the second year of marriage, and are planning for the future together. The girls and I are doing well. I have changed my career goals about as often as I have changed my under...., well, you know that scenario. I am hoping that a vacant admin support position will allow me to advance in an area I believe I am well suited, and that is well suited for my family. Please pray for me, and my family, as I will for all of you. Hope to hear from some familiar faces soon. Adding a quick update: currently working as a templator for Granite Transformations (great company!), recently visited CA (for the first time in 8 years), and had a great time with family, friends, and sight seeing the second greatest state in the union; became an uncle for the third time, when my sister had a boy la...Expand for more
st summer (2005). Great to see my youngest brother get married, to see my siblings, and father and step-mother. Life is short and so are the opportunities to say what you really want to say to people...don't miss the chance when it comes your way. God bless. College My college education has actually come more from classes and course work through the Community College of the Air Force. Butler Community College is a school in the Wichita area. My area of study has been English and literature/journalism. (2008 update: I have decided to further my education and pursue a degree in teaching; most likely elementary education. My wife has her masters already and that would situate us where we would like to be, as for pursuing a ministry that focuses on children.) Workplace From setting up banquets at the Holiday Inn Holidome (yes, I was a "Domie;" actually, I was a "knob" - you'd understand if you worked there), to stacking lumber at Reed's Lumber and working the jewelry warehouse at Best Products Inc. Co., I went to being a security policeman in the Air Force (active duty). First at Mather, then McChord (Tacoma, WA), to Galena, Alaska, and finally to Beale AFB, in Marysville. While at Beale I married (divorced shortly thereafter), I served for 2.5 years, prior to changing career fields to become a historian. That caused a move to Wichita, Kansas, where I have been ever since. In early 1993 I separated from the AF, and went to commercial driving school in Utah. I have driven various types of rigs, to include refridgerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, school buses, heavy loads, furniture, and I even tried owning my own truck to pull mobile homes. I have traveled all but two states, and hit all but five capital cities (to include Honolulu and Juneau). The AF allowed me to see Saudi Arabia ('86), Cyprus ('88), S. Korea ('95), and some European states. As a reservist, I was activated, in the AF, as a family support staff member, admin assistant for a 24 hour operations center, and as well as my full-time career as the unit historian. And if you like poetry, I have had some of my poetry published here in the US, and I have also been published in Europe. You can view original writings at: w3 dot poetry dot com. Just type in my first and last name (use: Randolph D. Brown, Jr.). Dec 2005: Back in the role of job seeker. Driving has been good, as for keeping employed, but there are too many "cons" to the job. And, as I recently found out, the trade industry is not that friendly of a place either. The Air Force has always provided a "sanctuary", if you will, as a place to go and perform a skill. In the "real world" a person has to deal with racism, career jockying, and many other distractions. That is why I am trying very hard to get my foot in the door of civil service; besides, the benefits are not too shabby. The career advancement will be enormous, and the benefit to my family and our goals will be great too. While I hope this pans out, I am enjoying working as a templator for an international company, with a franchise in Wichita; Granite Transformations. (You can research the site on the web, by using the company's name dot com). I really enjoy the flexibility, working inside is a real plus, and seeing different people, and going into different homes (most of them high end homes), is really interesting. I meet some of the greatest people and come home with stories about their dogs; which amazes my wife (that I remember the dog's names so well).
