Randy's Story

Life: Hello to all classmates. I am now residing in Ponchatoula, La. We are called the Strawberry Capital of the World. I have a twenty one year old son named Anthony that graduated on May 18th,2009 from Ponchatoula High School. He has been attending SLU and is now currently in the fall semester classes at SLU. I am a member of First Baptist in Ponchatoula and am living a content life. For those of you that remember my drinking habits, I am proud to say that it has been over thirty four years since I had my last drink. I volunteer my time with the American Legion, Boy Scouts, Alzheimer's Association, Church, the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival Board and usually any project that I get asked, lol. Several of us are currently organizing a committee that will represent all of our non-profit organizations and act as a information center to the community. This way we can draw on numerous resources and keep from stepping on each others toes doing fund raisers, work projects, etc. We are a small city that cares for each other and it's hard to turn down the request for help. I am blessed in life. Update on life: I was diagnosed with diabetes over six years ago, was put on metformin and told to change my diet and excercise. That was a big help, after a year and a half, my sugar levels were still too high. I starting researching online what to do since my docto...Expand for more
r wasn't helping. I've read at least ten different books, tried several diets and excercise programs. I finally settled on my own treatment, which is a combination of several programs of eating and excercise routines, lol I went from 235 lbs back in 2006 to currently 161 lbs.(my goal is 150lbs) This has been due to a change in attitude and survival instincts that I wasn't aware I had. I am on track to beating this disease, which is the philosophy that I share with a growing segment of society. My sugars are below 110 with out fasting and coming down the longer I stay the course. I no longer curse my fate, as I have embraced the good that this has done for my health. Anyone wanting more information about the path that I am have chosen, can contact me and I will share all that I have learned. Update of health conditions, I found out about four months ago (February,2012) I was given a present from my second wife. I have hepatitis C and I am in early stage renal failure. Well just another challenge to life. Military: I served in the Marine Corps from November 1969 through August 1972. My job was team leader on a Forward Air Control/Naval Gun Fire crew and I was with Second Anglico. I was based in San Diego, Ca. Camp Lejeune, N.C. Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Ft. Benning, Ga. and Okinawa. I visited Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.
