Randy's Story

Life Graduated MHS as an unknown in 1972. My life has been like the Eagles song "Take it to the Limit". I did not have alot going for me after High School. I worked a variety of odd jobs going no where and found myself in Florida racing professional moto-cross. Motorcycles are an important part of my life to this day. I own 4 and love to ride. It's my way to relax and unwind. My Professional Moto-cross aspirations did not pan out, unwilling as I was to admit I didn't have the talent and no amount of hard work or practice would get me there. On a dare to myself, I joined the Marine Corps in 1976 just to see if I could make it through boot camp and viola', I found my niche in life. Becoming a Marine and being called Marine the first time on graduation day at Parris Island, SC was one of the proudest days in my life. I did not think I had it in me to make it through boot camp yet I graduated as the Honor Man of my Platoon. Since that time I served in Marine infantry and counter-terrorist units for 22 years. Being a Marine I was always deploying somewhere and it kept me on the move which I like. I get bored easily. I retired from the Marine Corps in 1998 and found that I was not ready for the drudgery of civilian life. It was way to predictable. I don't know how you guys do it! I worked as a Fitness consultant until 9/11 came along. I tried to get back into the military but was told I was TOO OLD and to let the young guys take up the banner. As fate would have it, I ran into some...Expand for more
one at a fitness store who had asked me about my background and when hearing of my counter-terrorist background and credentials asked me if I wanted to serve again. I wanted to get back into the fray. It's hard not to when you have lived it for so long and 9/11 got my blood up! He introduced me to some folks who employed me as an independent contractor. I now am in Afghanistan working infantry operations with the Afghans and helping them stand on their own two feet. I am currently on my second tour of duty. I should also mention the proudest day of my life. I became a Dad at 51 years old to an awesome baby boy named Joshua Raymond Brown. He is my first and only and I love him to death! I never saw myself as a father until this happened, and I thank God everyday that he blessed me with this little guy. I plan on working with the Afghans as long as I can and than we will see what happens from there, after all, I am a dad now and want to do the things dads do. I will let God direct my actions, he's been right everytime if I had just listened and let him work. I married a wonderful women whom I cherish dearly and Lord knows how or why she puts up with me. Although I was not a popualr kid or well known in High School, I still often wondered about what had happened to my class-mates and what paths their lives had taken; thus this biography. If anybody remembers me and would like to chat, that would be waayyy cool! Hoping to hear from somebody. God Bless America and pray for our guys!
