Randy's Story
Life
I am now remarried to Jana Collard from Dalhart. She has two kids and I have two kids, so together we have 4. My two are: Cassie, married and living in Allen, TX, and Stephen, a U.S. Marine, and just got out in Dec. of 2011. He will be getting married in July of 2012. Jana's girls are Jeni, married and living in Houston and Kelli, living in St. Louis. We are living in Waco and I am an assistant football and basketball coach in Lorena, a 3A school 8 miles south of Waco. Jana is the art facilitator of 5 elementary schools in Waco.
College
After graduating college I married my best friend, Becky Gooch. We attained our first job a Dalhart, TX in the public schools. I taught history and coached while Becky taught upper level math and was a cheerleading sponsor. I have been teaching and coaching now for 28 years. Becky passed away with cancer in 1992. She left a wonderful legacy of students who will never forget her, neither will I. I am sorry that "West Texas State" became affiliated with the A&M System, but...you have to do what you have to do to stay open. I enjoyed my 4 years at WTSU!
Workplace
After Graduating from West Texas State in 1978 I taught and coached at Dalhart...Expand for more
for 8 years, then went to Olton for 4 years and then Whitewright for 2 years. Becky passes away at Whitewright. A year later I married into the Army and moved to Maryland and coached there for one year. Then we moved to Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, NC and I taught and coached there for 3 years. Then we were fortunate enough to be transferred to Ft. Hood in Killeen, Tx and we lived in Salado about 20 miles away. I coached there for 5 years and then went to Jarrell ( yep, of Tornado fame! ) and coached there for three years. That's when I got divorced. I then accepted a Head basketball job at Como-Pickton HS. Now I am at Lorena, a 3a school just south of Waco, TX. I have coached Football, Basketball, Track, and Baseball. Have been a head coach of both Basketball and Track. Been an Offensive and Defensive Coordinator in football. One of my most memorable experiences happened in my son's senior year. I was fortunate enough to coach my son, Stephen, who placed 2nd in both the 100 and 200 m. dashes at the state track meet. I enjoyed coaching both my kids, although it was hard at times. I enjoy coaching, I guess I better enjoy it because there is no money or no respect in it anymore.
