Randy's Story
USAF 1972 - 1982 - Radar Operator, Ground Controlled Intercept. Then was hired by the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller 1983 - 2007. Was an Adjunct Professor at Auburn University 1996 - 2011. I taught part time in the Aviation Management and Logistics Dept. I was married 37 years to a Baldwin girl who was also the mother of my 2 children. She lost her battle to cancer in 2013. Married Denise Leslie on August 27th 2017. It's funny because we met in the 4th grade. You never know who you'll run into at a high school reunion. Took us 2 months to marry. Outstanding woman who has blessed my life beyond my wildest dreams. She got me to shave off my mustache, a feat no one has ever been able to accomplish. She is my delight.
Only crush was Debbie Cogburn. I was in 7th grade. She was 2 grades ahead and I would pass her notes all of the time. She wrote back always using a red pen and scented each letter with her perfume. I get embarrassed even thinking ...Expand for more
about that now. Not the letters necessarily but what I did with them. They were stacked under my pillow. I would pull them out and smell them sometimes. It was a total crush that she, in her kindness, entertained until I got over it. What a nice woman.
Miss Ball (7th grade English) inspired me the most. Miss Thomas, the Chemistry teacher (a.k.a. Spawn of Satan) was arguably the most terrible person I have ever known.
I didn't graduate from Lee. I moved out to Jax Beach and spent my senior year at Fletcher. Still, the kids that I grew up with and played with when we were very young mostly went to Lee. This is the group I feel closer to even though I remain fond of the Fletcher classmates I remember.....all 3 of them. I'll add one more little thing since I'm already embarrassed. Terri Hudson was my first kiss. I remember it well and it changed me. I walked her home and she gave me a smack on the lips just before I left. I was 14. Slow starter.
