Randy's Story

Greetings to all! The latest: I apologize that I seem only capable of updating this segment about every three years. My wife (Monica Suffridge, LAHS class of '76) was wondering why there was no mention of our wedding (ha ha). I guess I just don't get onto this site that much ... I will try to do a better job in the future. Monica and I got married on June 14 2008 at Walnut Shade MO (near Branson). It was a spectacular ceremony and we had friends and family from 11 states attend. My best man, Phil Capizzi (LAHS class of '75) came out from Utah and we are very appreciative of him and his wife Sharon for making such a long journey to be a part of our special day. Since leaving LAHS: Two years after graduating from LAHS I entered the Air Force, for what was supposed to be four years, in order to get experience working in the personnel field. Well ... I never saw the personnel field, so I guess that's how I ended up staying in the service for 20 years (sometimes it did seem like a sentence -- ha ha). I separated from the air force in 1998 and have since lived in the Columbus, Ohio area. I currently live in Delaware OH. Monica and I have four children all together: Brandi graduated from The Ohio State University (psychology major/business minor) in June 2004, and married Mr. Michael Haines on 12-27-2004 in Worthington OH. They met each other while in high school in Hawaii, had broken up, but found each other again at Ohio State, even though Mike finished his high school years in Texas (his father was also military, but the family was originally from Ohio). The Haines currently live in Lexington OH but are hoping to move to warmer climates once the job market allows it. They have a beautiful daughter, Samantha -- born in 2011, a German sheperd, and "Mr Kitty" and "Little Kitty" tabbies. Lindsay got married to Michael Brown in 2007 and they are currently living in Omaha -- Mike is on his first air force assignment at Offutt AFB in Nebraska. Lindsay currently works for the Hyatt Hotel chain. Lindsay and Mike have two children, Granddaughter Hailey, born in 2002 (in Delaware state) and Grandson Ethan, born in 2008 (in Nebraska); in fact, Lindsay's prenatal appointments were in the very building where she was born when I was stationed at Elkhorn NE back in 1982. n is unmarried and lives in Columbia MO in order for him to attend an Electrical Engineering (EE) Degree program at the University of Missouri (Mizzou) and is currently in his third year there. He commutes between Ozark and Columbia during the summer. He hopes to graduate in 2014. Jessica has completed her AS degree and joined the Missouri National Guard. She is in the military intelligence field (Army MOS of 35F -- formerly 96B) and is home-based at Springfield MO. She is continuing her education at the Missouri State University in Springfield. Jessi has two cats, AJ and Jordan. After graduating from LAHS, Monica eventually moved to Missouri and then obtained a degree in hospitality management where she had spent many years working in the hotel industry. For now, we will be living in Ohio until I am able to qualify for a pension; then we will likely find out way back to Missouri. Monica is currently employed at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (Jack Hanna's house), in the Education Department, and just loves her job. As for me: Upon separating from the service, I worked for three years at the county government level before returning to federal service where I performed the same job I had held for most of my 20 year military career (but this time as a civilian). I work at Wright-Patterson AFB, at the National Air & Space Intelligence Center -- although it was known as the Foreign Technology Division when I was stationed there on active duty (1989-92). Every fall, I work the Ohio State University (OSU) football games in the Huntington Club season ticket holder section. OSU was the 2002 Football Division I-A National Champs! The 2010-11 time frame has seen a rough period for the Buckeyes with the university voluntarily vacating all wins of the 2010 season (including the win against Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl). Hopefully things will begin to look good again in the near future. But, with Nebraska now in the Big 10 Conference, there will still be plenty of excitement in the coming years!!! We can be reached at: RGavney(atsign)columbus(dot)rr(dot)com. Please don't hesitate to let us known if you're ever traveling to "C"-town (Columbus) -- where we bleed Scarlet and Gray baby! GO BUCKS!!! Cheers and best wishes to you and your family! Last updated: 08/12/2011
