Randy's Story
Life
Hey, it's Randy Wilcox, Our Lady Of Lourdes from grades 1,3,5,6,7 (Sr. Diane, Mrs. Gallo, Mrs. Sheehan, Mrs. McNulty, Mr. Williams). Also attended Paumanok Elementary School in West Islip in 4th grade (Mrs. Kanischack). Moved from West Islip to upstate (Schroon Lake) for 2nd grade (Mrs. Travers), and again for good in 8th grade.
Attended Schroon Lake Central School from 1978 to graduation in 1983.
After graduating high school, spent four years in the USMC. After leaving the Marines in 1987, moved to Virginia and got into the radio industry in 1988; got married to Dena in 1992, and along the way fathered two girls, Caitlynne (12) and Jacquelynne (10). I am now the Operations Manager for a 6-station radio cluster in Florence, SC...I run one of the biggest country stations on the East Coast. Also (with my partner) the #1 morning show in the region. Interesting where we all end up, huh?
Workplace
After the military (1983-1987), I held several odd jobs (convenience store clerk, security guard, film delivery driver) in...Expand for more
Schenectady NY until I moved to Virginia in Oct. 1988 to start work at a small easy listening radio station in Strasburg, VA - just to get my foot in the door. I have been working in radio ever since (mostly country radio); many stations in the Shenandoah Valley area of VA (WESI Strasburg; WFQX Front Royal/Winchester; WUSQ Winchester; WSIG Mt. Jackson; WKCY Harrisonburg; WLCC Luray). In 1998 I took a big leap and moved to Charleston, SC to do mornings. Worked at WNKT there for over 5 years, and then moved to Florence, SC to take over a group of radio stations in March of 2003. I oversee 6 radio stations for Qantum Communications, as well as running a country and a rock station within the cluster. I also do mornings on the country station, hosting the #1 rated "Mudflap & Mattie Morning Show". (I'm the 'Mudflap' part...I know, I know - corny, yet the rednecks love it). Looking back, I don't see how I could have done anything else in my life but radio..and never want to leave the career I've been building for over 18 years.
