Randy's Story

Life Visit my website for all information about me and my family. v2.randy-wilson.com School Hmm, if I could do high school over again, would I?? Now that is a very interesting question. I would say yes, because after leaving high school, going into the Marine Corps and then to college was the best thing I could have done. I was no longer shy and finally decided if someone did not like me, to hell with them, I am comfortable being who I am. There are a lot of things I would have done differently in high school as far as academics (like taken them a little more seriously for starters). The only people from high school that I hung around with after that fateful graduation day were a few that I ran into at college, thankfully for me as we all know, some of our classmates were a little trouble and got into a lot more trouble. College College.... ahh, now this was were living really started. I continued on my trail to becoming an individual and got involved in organizations that I am still involved in today that essentially mark me as NOT an individual. Being in my Fraternity allowed me to mingle with people who would have turned their nose up at me in high school, so what could I do but return the favor to them. That truly was a great time in life. I accepted more responsibility at that point in my life than most people take on their entire lives. Managing to mix my military time and college forced me to work with people of all classes of society and deal with handling them respectfully as well as looking out for their best interest when many times they did not know what that was themselves. Being a student legislator and leader in the Greek System in college really trained me for the better things in my life that were yet to come, and now I am reaping the rewards of those things. Workplace Well, we could just go on for hours on this one. I have worked for 3 companies since graduating college (and the current one since finishing my Masters Degree). I did my internship for a public entity and met some people for a great organ...Expand for more
ization while I was there. Just before graduation, I interviewed for a job and lost out to another person I did my internship with (they told me later that it was because he could start before I could). So after losing that job and being devastated, I took a job with a company in a manufacturing environment and after about 1 month, regretted my choice to go to work there. While my job was not bad, the hours were terrible. After 5 months, the place I had interviewed with called my parents house to try to reach me to offer me that job - the other guy did not work out!! I started there in July 1994 and worked there for almost 2 years, all the while angling for a job with the great organization I mentioned during my internship. After that 2 year period, the organization had an opening and I jumped at the chance -- I got the job! Well, that was in March, 1996 and I am still here today. I have changed jobs, responsibilities and even career paths, but still with the same company. They allowed (and paid for) me to get my Masters Degree from DePaul University and now I am at a point in my life where few people really ever reach. I work for a great company that cares about its employees and I actually love my job --- can you say that? Military Some of the best times of my life are the days, weeks, months and years I spent in the Marine Corps. It seems I have lost touch with everyone that I served with but every time I stop thinking about this part of my life, I run into someone that I served with. I was at a Chicago Cubs baseball game last summer and a person walks up behind me in the restroom and screams WILSON, I about freaked out. I had not seen this person since boot camp and we started talking about all the guys we were with and unfortunately counting up the fellow Marines we have lost over the last 15 plus years between the many conflicts and wars our country has been in. Even though the US Marine Corps is a part of my past, it is still an ever present part of my life. I will always be proud to call myself Marine!! Oooh-Raahh!!
