Randy's Story

Randy was born on a rainy night in Calhoun, Georgia. He was the fourth son of Edith and Virgil Barrett. They wanted a girl but instead were blessed with an eating machine. Virgil worked for Allis Chalmers, head quartered in West Allis, Wisconsin and was promoted three times, which meant the family had to move North with each promotion. Elementary School was started in Tucker, Georgia, attended middle school in Ferguson, Missouri and graduated high school at Brookfield Central, Brookfield Wisconsin. Randy never attended a regular English Class but spent eight years in speech therapy learning how to lose a southern accident. He was active in sports. He lettered in football, basketball, tennis, baseball in high school and his senior year his football team was undefeated and his team won the Wisconsin State Baseball Championship. Missoula, Montana was his next stop to attend college. He was a member of the Griz football team but was asked to leave after his sophomore year for not attending classes. ¿I knew there was something I was forgetting to do,¿ but that didn¿t sit well with the coaching staff. Softball and rugby, his two favorites sports, followed football and he played both until adulthood. Randy completed his degree at the University of Montana, the spring of his daughter¿s birth. The birth of Jessica meant it was time to semi-grow-up. Randy and Ruth Mullen were married five years earlier. She was a Butte Babe and he still has a connection to the Butte Irish. He considers people from Butte the salt of the Earth and St. Patrick¿s Day is still celebrated with his daughter and Ruth, now his ex-wife. Mr. Barrett¿s work with the elderly started in 1978. He ran the activities programs at Hillside Nursing Home in Missoula. Later he was hired to run the Great Falls Senior Center in 1981 and pr...Expand for more
ogressed to Executive Director of the Area VIII Agency on Aging in 1988. He has worked with Cascade County for 27 years. A senior citizens weight lifting program started in 1994, in conjunction with Healthworks Health Club. The reaction was positive and he hired North Country Media to make a short video about the class, entitled, Lift For Life. The Video won an OWL Award for video production. Coaching girl¿s fast pitch at Great Falls High for eight years was a joy for him as was being head coach at CMR for the Volleyball Program. He coached for one year at Simms High School before becoming a Executive Movie Producer. ¿Adios¿ was all that was said to coaching and he started making movies and television productions. Berts and Beebz and Rand ¿eye¿ are two of his television programs. Rand ¿eye¿ deals with the world being seen through the lens of his camera and Berts and Beebz is a fishing show done with his best friend from college, Lewistown native, Dan Bertus. Few fish are caught but many calories are consumed during the videoing of this production. A larger boat was bought two years ago due to the 600 pounds weight limit of their original boat. He was right at home being a DJ for KGPR, public radio, Great Falls, Montana. His Grin and Bear It show was mostly Blues and Gospel with a touch of Rock and Roll. Randy loved doing radio but making movies became a priority. In two years Randy and Stu Brumbaugh have produced two, Made in Montana Movies, entitled Iron Ridge and The Vessel. Both play parts in the productions and enjoy the work. His current residence is on the Missouri River in Great Falls, Montana with his dog, Jill. He is a proud Grandpa to his Grandson Lucas. Four-year old Lucas and Papi, Lucas name for him, cruise Great Falls and Helena on a four-wheeler trying to pick up babes.
