Randy's Story
I spent sixth thru ninth in Oakdale, a place that use to only have one stop light and every body knew every bodies name. One of those small town USA and loved every minute of it, swimming in the river, going water skiing in the reservoir, Rodeo once a year, going fishing and picking peaches in the summer. I then came to H.B. in the summer of 1973, went to Costa Mesa for half year and then moved to Huntington. I first met Ken Dufresne and Mark Geared, I don't think Marks name is spelled correctly, any way's, we became good friends because we had all just transferred to the school at or around the same time. Ken taught me how to surf, the hard way, in Dec. no wet suit and a shitty board, but I had a blast. From that point surfing became every thing we did. Cruse by the beach first thing every morning, surfs up guess were going to miss first period again! I was on the track team for three year, wanted to play football my last year with Mark but did not want to spend my summer practicing, so I missed football my Senior year. Lots of things happened those three year, way to much to put in this small place but we had a great time. Ken and Lori Boaboski graduated in 76 and Mark and me kind of went our separate ways, mainly because of me, another story all to itself, I was lost with out all of us and school just was not happening. Ken came to me in Feb of 77 and said Hay lets go talk to the Army recruiter? March of 77 we were in Fort Knox Kentucky for basic training. I took my GED in the Army and they send my test score to H.B. and some how got me an honorary diploma. I know its not the same as walking across the stage with your friends but with my home life the way it was I was more then ready to get away from my father. He has been sober now for 18 years and were relay proud of him. Ken Laurie and me spent a year and a half in El Paso TX and then on the Germany. Things work out for a reason! I was in Texas, my sergeant called me into his office asked me If I wanted...Expand for more
to go to Germany and I said No! A few minutes later some of my friends were telling me about the beer, travel and other things and I went directly back into his office and said when do I leave? I got to Germany on Tuesday, My duty station on Friday and my Wife on Sunday! No she's not German She is from Savannah Ga. I went there with intentions of meeting all these beautiful German woman and I discovered that the most beautiful one was from the USA! I knew she was the one for me she just didn't know it yet! We did not get married tell 83, we started dating seriously near the end of my tour, I got out, came back to Cal. worked for a short time plumbing with my dad and then went back to Germany as a civilian and we lived in Nuremberg for three years travailing Europe and having fun. Kathy then said, I'm home sick and we came back to the states were her father was stationed in D.C. We came back not sure if we were going to Ca. or D.C. but ended up in D.C. because it reminded me so much of Germany. He soon was transferred to Savannah Ga. were we followed a few years later. We now have a great house, five doors down from Paula Dean. We celebrated 33 years of a beautiful marriage, three great kids, one beautiful grand baby, a Harley Davidson, three dogs one very old cat and in short, here we are. Ken is married and living in N.Y.City. I think he's really happy now, we still stay in touch and he's big into golf and might get his senor's touring card. Laurie got remarried to a guy from England and they are living there now, haven't talked to here in about ten years. Mark Gerard, from what I have heard, is a Lawyer and living some where in N.Y. Jim Pinkerton, also a good friend that graduated in 76, is a Chiropractor and lives in Minnesota. Hope this helps and feel free to send a note or say Hay if you see anyone we may have known. Seeing how they will not let you post your email check evey other letter and put the at symble between the two a's, r,d,g,a,a,o,l,., c,o,m.
