Randy's Story

Life i left lakewood high school for Brigham Young Univ to be on their swim team and their water polo team (goalie) .. after one semester of college classes, i decided to go on a church mission for 2 years, i served in the united states (ohio, kentucky, west virginia) upon completion of this church mission, i re-entered BYU, at which point my draft number came 76, just before i was to sign up, pres. nixon killed the draft and i chose to continue to attend college at byu where i met my bride to be, deborah morris from morgantown west virginia (no we didn't meet while i was on my church mission) .. we married august 3 1973 and continue the relationship even to this day 35 years later ... my wife did graduate from BYU, i didn't, but rather i graduated in electronics from a trade tech located in provo utah, after 5 years in the provo-orem utah area and 2 children (both boys)we moved to livermore calif for my first fulltime job with lawerance livermore labs as a bench technican, after 2 years in livermore and another male child we packed up everything and moved back to morgantown west virginia where i got a job with the gov't contractor company EG&G at the DOE facility located in morgantown, started out as an electronic tech, over time went into mid-level management and for the next 18 years and 4 more children (1 girl and 3 boys for a grand total of 7 children, 6 boys/1 girl) we did the best we could at providing for everybody's needs, we did build one house from stratch and remodeled another 7 bedroom house to provide for the ever expanding family, my wife for something to do after the litte ones where in school, obtained a master's degree in reading from WVU and obtained a teaching license and certificate K-12, later she would begin a Phd progra...Expand for more
m in reading at the Univ of Utah .. i did finally obtain a BA degree in Organizational Management, upon my 'downsize' from my mid-level management job in the mid-90's we packed up the remaining children and returned to the state of utah where we currently live in the salt lake city area .. all 7 of our children have now graduated from High School, (5 with academic honors) currently five children have graduated from college, the girl was married now divorced(no children), 4 boys married with families, (one is a very accomplished pilot with the USAF) .. yes i did play much sports in the various cities and towns that we lived in securing many individual and team awards, honors and championships .. some of our children continued the herbert sports tradition of winning especially in football and baseball ... life seems to have dealt us some pretty hard blows, near death asthma for one child and a brain tumor for another, but by whatever chances and circumstances for the most part we appear to have kept our heads above water and enjoy seeing and being with our family - especially during the holiday season .. hope this short note gives you some idea of what happened to randy herbert class of 1969 College i attended byu from august 1969 to jan 1970 ... took a leave of absence for a 2yr church mission .. then attended byu from march 1972 until june 1975 at which point i transferred to utah technical college and obtained two associate degrees, one in electronics and one for general education ... that lasted from june 1975 until april 1978 went off to work in the real world until june 1993 where i transferred every college credit i had to alderson-barrdous and completed their BA requirements for a degree in Organizational Management in June of 1995
