Randy's Story
After EHS I attended WestTexas State University (did not finish after 2 years). I moved back to Hell Paso and went to work in my Dad's homebuilding business. Started my own homebuilding business about 10 years later. After 21 years in the homebuilding business I got sick of it and went to work for a school district as Director of Construction. Did that for 6 1/2 years before I realized I needed to get back to the private sector so I could make some decent money again. After the school district job I took a job as Regional VP for a construction company based in Granbury, TX. I ran our San Antonio office with our primary function being school construction. I really liked it even though it require me to travel a lot. We focused primarily on rural school districts so virtually every school project we did was "out of town".
In September '08 I went to work for an architectural and engineering firm (O'Connell Robertson) as their Construction Administrator, a 61 year old firm with offices in Austin and San Antonio. Very lttle travel now. We focus primarily on K-12 schools, higher ed schools, and medical facilities. I'm lovin' it!
I got married to another EHS grad, the former Gloria D. Payne. We have three kids.....Stacey, Cole, and Erin. Stacey graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in journalsm and works in IT for the New York Times. Cole graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Civ...Expand for more
il Engineering and is a licensed professional civil engineer in Austin, TX. working for the City of Austin. Erin attended the University of Texas and ended up transferring to Southwest Texas State and taught school for about 5 - 6 years in San Antonio. She is now the HR manager for a civil engineering firm in SATX. Yes, that's right....at one point we had a freshman, a junior, and a senior at UT all in the same year!! Yikes......!!!
We lived most of our married life in Clint, TX and finally got out of Hell Paso County after the last kid graduated from high school. Wish I had done it about 10 years earlier! SATX is a great place to live. Live music all over the place here and in Austin 7 nights a week, 365 days. There is so much to do around here and within a 100 mile radius!!
I've also done my business and civic duty over the years having served on the board of directors and as President of the El Paso Association of Builders. I served almost 7 years as a Trustee on a school board and served one term on a city council before moving to SATX.
I like flyfishing, kayaking, cooking (I'm real good at smoking brisket and baby back ribs!) and messing around with my guitar (my son-in-law got me back into that). All in all it's a good life.....no complaints here!
I wish others on this web site would write a little something about themselves.
Update.......grandkids now 11 and 6 years old with a new girl on the way.
