Ray's Story

I was born. Served my country. Got married. Raised a family. Worked for the government. Retired after 20 years. And lived. What else is there? Oh yes, go to the happy hunting ground, push up the daisies, fertilize the soil or what ever. Very exciting wouldn't you say? Life has been just fine in all aspects. Except for the times of playing tag with the Grim Reaper and racing with the Devil. Such as having been in a few violent auto accidents. Battling with cancer and a few serious construction accidents. My latest life shaker happened September of 2014. I was finishing my mowing job on our terraced back yard area, While mowing on my tractor mower, trying too finish before calling it a day. With the trailer still hooked up behind me, I miscalculated my maneuvering room. I was to close to the edge of the upper terraced wall. While trying to brake and go into reverse my foot slipped off the brake and I plunged over the 16 foot stone wall. I went straight into the utility trailer in the garage area below. As the steering wheel broke in my hands, the steering column came in contact with my chest. It broke 5 ribs and fractured 3 ribs. I felt my right wrist contact the trailer frame and I heard my wrist snap like a rifle shot, breaking both bones of my wrist. As I was ejecting from the tractor my legs got caught under the dash panel peeling meat...Expand for more
and skin from my shins, from the knees to the ankles. I was part way out when the steering column slammed into my pubic mound, causing a very serious large bruising contusion. My head came in contact with the metal angle bar frame work, causing a head concussion. That's when I felt the 800 pound tractor land on my back and running over my face, neck, shoulder and back. I also fractured my back when the tractor landed on and ran over me. It left tire tread marks on my face, neck, shoulder and back. My son heard the crash and was there within moments. He called 911 and I was airlifted to Tacoma General. I spent 42 days in the hospital. I was in intensive care at the trauma center for 8 of those days. I was monitored 24 hours a day. I then spent 32 days in rehab learning how to walk and function once again with everyday normal activity. The doctors said I was real lucky to be alive. The broken ribs were within centimeters of piercing my heart and lung. They told me to be prepared for a long and tough recovery .At least 1 year or plus with a lot of rehab. They say only the good die young. I must have been really bad to the bone. Or I have been faster then the Devil and the Grim Reaper. In any case I'm very glad to still be around. The Angel on my shoulder and my Hell Raising ways saved my bacon. Thank you very much. Ray, just left the building
