Ray's Story
Workplace
After school I went to work for awhile driving dump and cement trucks for Rev. Drollinger there in Potlatch. I soon went to work at Bennets (?sp) before going active with the Air Force. After my stint in the service I came back to Potlatch and the saw mill. After a few years of that I moved to Kennewick, Wa. to work in a cabinet shop. I was there for about 1 1/2 years before gong to work for Pay 'N Pak Stores. I was with them un til they went out of business in'92. I had workrd my way to store manager and was living in Walla Walla, Wa when the job ended. I then went to work for Eagle Hardware and Garden in Kennewick for the next 5 1/2 years. I then went to work for myself as a store call person for several repping agencies. About 6 years ago I came to work for Jubilee Youth Ranch. We are a Christain boarding school for at risk teenage boys. I teach the woodshop class here and believe I have found my niche in life.

I joined the Air Force in Feb. of '68. Went to lackland in Texas where everybody goes for basic. From there to Shepard A.F.B. in Wichita Falls, Texas for tech school. They tried to teach me how to be an airplane crew chief. After tech I got to go home on leave for a month before I was sent to R.A.F. Bentwaters in England. I was to eventually be a crew chief on an F4-C Phantom. Crew chief is another name for glorified service station attendant. While in England I was deployed to several different countries...Libya, Spain, Greece, Sardinia (2) and Italy (2). We had to go to these countries as England had no live bombing and gunnery range. I was able to see a lot of the world thanks to Uncle Sam. I could have seen a lot more if he had paid me better and I could have afforded things. I was discharged in Feb. '72 one week earlier than my full 4 years. A good experience that I'm sure would have been a career if I had not had a wife and kids.
