Ray's Story
Life
It's a strange and wonderful world, friends, when Nathan Vaughan is a teacher, Gary Hamilton is a kicker, Ken Kuykendahl owned an insurance agency, Kathy Dastous was a soldier, and I spent a couple years being a narcotics agent!
From the beginning: I left Pasadena as soon as I saw that they spelled my name right on my diploma, got a degree in Chemical Engineering from A&M then left Texas as soon as I saw that they spelled my name right on my diploma.
Joined the Army. Since I was an engineer I was assigned to an Engineering unit that built and blew up roads and bridges. Then since I knew some chemistry they sent me to a Crime Lab in Georgia and since it was easier to teach a chemist to be a cop than vice versa they sent me to Criminal Investigation school. The next couple years I worked as a Special Agent with the Army Crime Lab, doing analysis of trace evidence such as drugs, paints, hair, fibers, and arson investigations. So I was CSI way before CSI was cool.
Met and married a young lady from Pennsylvania who was also in the Army. Married in 1980, still are. We both left the Army to work for the Kimberly-Clark Corp. I used various scientific gadgets to support industrial research and solve m...Expand for more
anufacturing problems. Sort of like the Crime Lab but I didn't put people in jail. Worked there for 30 years.
Kids: 3: girl, boy, girl. Grand kids: 3: Boy, girl, boy. Kids spread from Richmond VA to Portland WA, one lives near us in Georgia.
Hobbies: Backpacking (member of the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club), juggling (member of International Jugglers Association), gardening (certified Georgia Master Gardener)and making wine from grapes and fruit grown in the yard. Wine goes very well with backpacking, juggling and gardening! Or really anything but driving, right?
I've gotten as serious about juggling as it is possible to be serious about something so silly and spend family vacations at juggling festivals in the States and Europe. So now the most uncoordinated teenage klutz is an old man who can juggle 6 balls, 4 clubs, and if it wasn't too late for my midlife crisis I'd run away and join the circus. Google "'my name' & juggling" to see pictures. We live on a couple of acres north of Atlanta with a big garden, little vineyard and orchard, and a house with one room full of circus props.
Retired early and now full time gardener. Sometimes I really want to go back to work so I can get some rest!
