Ray's Story
Military
Went to boot camp on a train! Last one, we arrived after recruits that
joined after we did in L.A. and took a plane. It was an
all time record heat wave in Texas,
over 100, degrees, day and night
over 2 weeks in a row. Then went to
Ill. (Part of U. of Ill.) for weather training. Record cold for a winter.
Was top of class, so got my 1st choice, Oxnard AFB,Ca. Only 30 mi.
N. of Burbank, Ca. my home town.
After 17 months there, went to Vietnam. First...Expand for more
enlisted AF person
to get there. Had a lot of different jobs, from training Viet. AF
cadets weather to spying for black
market violations. Always carried
concealed .38 2" barrel(had Viet.
permit). Came back all in one piece
got reassigned to Oxnard AFB till 66 where I got dicharged as SGT. in
charge of the weather detachment.
I am looking for anyone who was over in Nam 64-65 Ton Son Nhut , or
any area around it. Also anybody
that was in the 30th weather Sq.
