Raydene's Story
Life has been fun and adventurous!
Here is where it gets fun-My life sounds like your typical sports Mom. I am married and have three wonderful children. Two boys and a girl. We have three dogs and a cat. I drive a SUV and at one time I sold Real Estate.
Here is where it gets adventurous- I am married to a Lt Colonel in the United States Army. We have been stationed all over the US and overseas. My favorite place to live has been Germany. We lived there for four years and traveled all over Europe.
We are now in the great state of Alaska. The land of beautiful summers and 24 hours of daylight. There is a flip side to that though- they have beautiful cold and snowy winters too.
This past winter it got down to -57 degrees "below" 0. They only close the schools when it gets to -60 or below. The kids were really bummed out that it did not drop lower.
At the schools they have recess outside until it reaches -20 and then they stay inside. You learn how to layer your clothes and jackets- you learn how to choose the right fabrics so that you do not go out looking like the little boy in " The Christmas Story".

for the darkest day of the year and then we gradually add back daylight until the summer equinox and 24 hours of daylight.
NOV 2008
update- We have been in AK for a little over a year now. We have had a good year. We made it through the freezing temps of an AK winter (-57) and now winter has set in again.
This is the land of extremes- beautiful summers and intense winters. I am now a hockey mom instead of a soccer mom.:)
I have changed jobs and now I work at Fort Wainwright as a government employee. I am a Family Readiness Coordinator for the Brigade Troops Battalion and work with the Army. The 1/25 Stryker Brigade Combat Team is deployed to Iraq, so I am staying really busy working with all of the families. I love my job as it keeps me busy and helps me make it through the long dark winters. That was my biggest challenge last year. I found that the darkness more than the cold, was what messed with me the most. You can only do so much skiing (the ski slope behind my house has big lights to light up the slopes). They close it when the temps hit -20.
