Raymond's Story

Life After graduation, I continued my education at Cerritos College and began working at Knott's Berry Farm. Soon I joined the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and was stationed with the 63rd Military Airlift Wing, Norton AFB, San Bernardino CA. The same day I left the Air Force, I was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff for Los Angeles County. After working nine-years in South-Central LA, I went the Riverside Sheriff's Department and became a Sergeant in Lake Elsinore. I'm currently working for the Riverside County District Attorney's Office on the gang task force. To all of my past acquaintances and friends, "let's network!" Send me a message and let me know you're still alive & kicking . . . School I wish I could have finished my high school years at Walnut H.S. Unfortunately, my family moved to Cerritos CA; during my senior year. My parents did not see the importance of graduating from the same high school. Therefore, I transferred to Artesia H.S. in Lakewood. I was an outsider and never felt at home. Subsequently, my graduation from high school was kind of a let down. Although times at Walnut H.S. were not the best, I really do miss not graduating with the Class of 1977. Oh Well! College My college experience is limited to attending a few Junior colleges. I have never attended a "real" college. After high school, I attended Cerritos Community College and majored in Business. Went out on my own by joining the United States Air Force. After my honorable discharge, I worked full time, but still managed to get enough credits to switch to another college. I attended Ashford University and attained a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Management, with an emphasis in Human Resource Development, Then I added to my madness by attaining aMaster's Degree in Psychology, Victimology, & Criminology Workplace After high school, I had a lot of ideas about what I should do for a living. Here are some of the ideas: Aerospace Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance, Electronic Engineering, Electronics Technician, Computer Technology, Drafting, Animator, and Law Enforcement. While in the United States Air Force I became aircraft maintenance specialist. I enjoyed being a Crew Chief on a large jet cargo plane (C-141 A&B Lockheed Starlifter). However, I discovered that my true calling was in public ...Expand for more
safety. The day I was discharged from the Air Force was the same day I was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff for Los Angeles County. After a short stay in corrections division, I was sent out to patrol division at Carson Station. There I worked in patrol and investigations. Ten years later, I changed jobs and joined the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. My first assignment there was at the Lake Elsinore Sub-Station, where I worked patrol and investigations. I then moved to Internal Affairs (i.e. Administrative Investigations Unit). After three years, I promoted to sergeant and was moved to the Robert Presley Detention Center. In October 2002, I was reassigned to Lake Elsinore Station and supervised patrol operations. Three years later, I was moved to Court Services. After months of trying to transfer to another division, I decided to find green pasture. I found it with my move in 2005 to the Riverside District Attorney's Office - Bureau of Investigations. My assignments were in Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force, Tribal Gaming Unit, and the Major Crimes Unit. Military In 1978, I joined the United States Air Force with the intent of being a "Sky Cop" (Law Enforcement Specialist). At the Los Angeles AFEE Station, I was told that my vision disqualified me from that job. I therefore entered the field of maintaining Airlift/Bombardment Aircraft (my second love). Upon completing Basic Training at Lackland AFB (San Antonio TX), I was bussed to my Tech School at Sheppard AFB (Wichita Falls TX). After Tech School, I was reassigned to the 63rd MAW, Norton AFB, San Bernardino CA. I was specifically assigned to the 63rd Organizational Maintenance Squadron (OMS). As a "Flying Crew Chief," I accomplished my goal of seeing the world. In 1982, I left active duty for a civilian career in public safety. While working for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1983, I was enlisted into the Law Enforcement unit at Edwards AFB, as an active reserve. In 1985, I transferred to the law enforcement unit at Norton AFB. Not happy with my Air Force Reserve career in Law Enforcement, I went back to aircraft maintenance with 445th OMS at Norton AFB. With the time-off conflict I was experiencing with the Sheriff's Department, I closed my military career in the Air Force Reserve in 1990.
