Raymond's Story
4/17/2012 and updated Monday, February12, 2024
I'm retired and living in NM right on the State line seven miles from Ignacio, CO. I'm married to Georgiana Martinez, Gallup High class of 1968. Previously married to Dorothy Vega, Cathedral class of 1967. I graduated from Cathedral class of 1966, but spent four years prior at El Rito Northern New Mexico Normal School ( NNMNS) before transferring to Cathedral my senior year. Why Cathedral and not Gallup High?... my friends at the time, David Montoya and Pat Lueras, were at Cathedral, is the only reason, and I'm glad I did, I can't think of a single person at Cathedral I didn't like, including the priest and nuns..
My hobbies? golf, photography, rock hunting, and reading.
From 1971 through 2010 I was in Federal Civil Service employment both in Baltimore and San Francisco all 9 to 5 with summer vacations, the american dream kind of. I returned to New Mexico in Dec 2010 to marry and live with my present wife Georgiana. The plan is to spend my remaining years in NM and experience the hidden treasures of our Great State.
With two prior marriages, this being my third and last, and three grown kids comes three g- kiddies to carry the line. Good Luck, and may the Force be with them! What Fun!
Georgiana and I first met in the summer of 1965 and re-met again in 2010, married in 2016, We moved from Aztec to our present home here in the country near Los Pinos river, far from the madding crowd, ha ha.
If wishes could be real, I would have tons of pictures growing up in Gallup with friends and family, but it seems no one had cameras at the time or, cell phones to capture every little crazy adventure or candid shot as the kids of today. The year books give us hints of the times and fading thoughts of what was. Now in my seventies my dreams are more of those years of my youth with warm summer months and cold winters. It's the high school years that I seem to relive enjoy most even as thoughts force me to see the lesser pleasant time of life. But that's ok, I think of it as a complete rounded life. I am forever thankful for this long life and have no regrets when my time comes to move beyond life. My heart goes out to those that I knew who left this earth years ago and missed what we se...Expand for more
e today. We that continue life to this grand age give thanks for the experience of having witness this changing world and all it offers, I pray that it's not to late to save it for our children, and future generations to come.
I feel like I should say a few words about the High School at El Rito better known as Northern New Mexico Normal School or NNMNS Eagles. The Co-ed school is located in the tiny town of El Rito a bit removed from any other town the largest being Espanola some twenty miles away. The student population was split, half from town and farms around the area , and the other half who came from around New Mexico and various States around the Country. A yearly tuition was paid for the students who lived on campus which covered room and board only, Grades were from 7th to 12th with some vocational classes. The last graduating class was in 1969, much like the last class at Cathedral the difference being that El Rito has class reunions most ever year which includes ALL graduating class over the years, something Cathedral should look into. It would be nice to have as many photos of Cathedral and Gallup to show you all as I do El Rito, but I don't. Sorry.
Every life is forever however long or short.....eternity being the goal.
C'est la vie! Es la vida!
That's Life!
I enjoy posting photos on Classmate and other social media sites for all to see. I have no privacy issues, the world being what it is. No problem, I'm just a small fish in a dark abyss of billions. Notes are welcomed at PO Box 1701. Ignacio, CO 81137.
NEEDS TO BE SAID: It's with great sorrow that I see the world as it is today. Climate change appears eminent as is the threat of war with its destructive long range nuclear missiles. A virus that continues to mutate in the middle of political and class gender conflicts that has the populous on edge. What am I to think when I look at the young ones and see now what was and what is and what might be. It's times like this that I say "perhaps a prayer."
That is it. Enjoy the fotos

A passing note: This coming September 2024 is another Class Reunion at El Rito, most likely my last. However, a class reunion at Cathedral would be most welcome by me and I'm sure, many others.
