Raymond's Story

Life My bio... hmmm. Graduated in '97 - and joined the Air Force shortly after that. Went to basic training and tech school for my 'trade' all in Texas. After attaining my certifications in Telecommunications I was stationed in Japan. Japan - Japan was great. I had a wonderful time there. Great party scene, met incredible friends and the Japanese are very cool. I experienced a lot of things and went through a huge lesson in life while there. It made me realize how much is out there. I realized that vast majorities of people in the states are truly ignorant to what goes on in the world around them. There are more things I would like to do in Japan and I would love to go back. I spent two years in Japan and decided to move back to the States and was re-stationed to Utah. Utah- Utah was a lot better than I expected. Granted, I tried not to have any preconceived notions, but from what I had heard of the state, it left a lot to be desired. I thought it was sweet. I love the outdoors, the snow was great and the summer was fun camping and hiking. In Utah I started dating my future wife, Kim, who I originally met while in Japan! I dig Utah though, it's a good place to be if you like the outdoors. When I was done in the military - I went on a road trip. I had an awesome time driving around the country visiting friends all over the country and seeing family and friends back home in Minnesota. Eventually I landed a job working with Sprint in Overland Park, Kansas just outside of Kansas City. Kansas - Interesting place. KC was a good time - quite a bit of partying to be had there. I worked in a NOC with Sprint and made some good friends. Had a good time going to a bunch of concerts and getting into playing guitar. I was with Sprint for about a year and a half when I got a call from a really good friend of mine letting me know there was an opening for a Tech in the Middle East... not the best place to be for an American, but he said ...Expand for more
the pay was good. I talked it over with Kim, and decided to take a contract for a year over there and pay off all my bills. So I moved to a small country called Qatar that is a peninsula connected to Saudi Arabia in the Persian Gulf. Qatar - I got to Qatar in Nov 2002. The summers are hot, winters are great and the pay was good. I was about done with my first year when I went back to the states and Kim and I got married in Oct 2003. I changed companies the next month, but stayed in Qatar. Kim moved out there as well soon after in Jan 04. We both worked in Qatar and had a great time traveling and experiencing the world from there for two more years. Went back to UT in Nov. 05 and my wife Kim and I had our first child. Orion was born on Jan 28th 2006. I got another offer to work overseas in Bahrain and we depart on 15 April 2006. So, another chapter in the game of life and some more time overseas in the Middle East.... Bahrain- We lived in Bahrain from April 2006 until August 2010. Orion is getting big and is a lot of fun. We had our second child, Evalyn on July 11th 2008 in Bahrain, which was another great experience. Bahrain weather is hot as usual. Winter around here usually cannot come fast enough. I have been working, going back to college, and doing the domestic husband/dad type stuff these days. Hope to do some traveling to the Orient or the Far East. Germany- We moved to the Stuttgart area in Germany in August of 2010. Germany has been a wonderful experience and a very different change of pace compared to Bahrain. We are continuing to travel when when can. I love the fact that now it is so easy to go to so many different countries and experience vastly different cultures in such a compact amount of area. With Germany being so centrally located in Europe, it provides us an extraordinary opportunity to see and do things on short trips. Best of all, we have had so many family and friends visit us already in our time here.
