Raymond's Story

I was in the Navy during the late 60's. I was stationed on a ship out of Chicago, Il. I met a wonderful girl while my ship was docked in Milwaukee, Wi. We dated, and we fell in love. Because of this love we had a son together. I got descharged from the Navy Jan 1970. Before I left to go back to PA I wanted Sharon Shafer, the girl I fell in love with to marry me. She wouldn't marry me, and she wouldn't move in with me, either. I didn't want to marry her only because of the baby on the way. I loved her. Her parents talked to her but it didn't help. We did stay in touch once I got back to PA, and started college on the GI Bill. I was going to stay with her and get a job while going to school at night. But she didn't, like I already mentioned, want to marry me or move in with me. I never did know why she stopped communication with me not too long after I got home. Talking on the phone back then cost a lot. But I did call some times. Our boy would have been born around June 1970. I think what may have happened is that when I moved out of my parents house shortly after getting home from the service, so I could be closer to school and my job, my mail wasn'...Expand for more
t forwarded to me. I believe my mother, doing what she felt was right, but not by me, knowing that Sharon didn't want to marry me or move in with me, when asked by me of my mother on whether or not I had gotten any mail from Sharon, she would say no. I know on my part I probably should have tried harder to communicate with Sharon after that. But life has a way of just going by before you know it. Not long after my mother passed, I was going through some of her things. I came across a picture that Sharon sent to me of our boy at 4 months old. He was in a carrier setting on Sharon's mom's kitchen table. My mother kept this from me and any other letters were destroyed. What my mother may have told Sharon must have been something bad enough for Sharon to stop communication. All of these years I've never forgot about Sharon, and our son. I've tried, but to no success, trying to reach her or find out anything about our son. Not knowing what my mother may have said to Sharon, I don't even know whether my son even knows if I'm alive. I would appreciate anyone that reads this, that believes they can help me with this, getting back with me at this site. Thank-you.
