Rebecca's Story

I can hardly believe it¿s been twenty-five years since high school graduation. I¿ve not followed my fellow graduates because I was close friends with few and was fortunate to stay in touch with them on an individual basis for years. Let¿s see. . . I was rather recluse in high school ¿ staying confined to the choir room and friends with those who shared my interest in music. You¿ll find me (embarrassingly) in the homecoming court lineup for the graduating class of 1984. Yep, that¿s me; the silly-looking strawberry blonde in the front row ¿ right in front of the Queen. No claim to fame ¿ just the willing princess from the vocal music department. I married my high-school boyfriend two years after graduation and had two beautiful daughters who are now old enough to be married themselves, both in college. We moved to Colorado and have lived here since. After twenty years, my marriage came to a ¿surprise¿ ending and I found myself a single Mom, back in school, and trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up. I managed to earn a degree somewhere in there, but my professional experience is not a highlight in life. My lifelong dream (at age 18) was t...Expand for more
o be a choral conductor. Somehow I ended up with a business degree. Ironically, my classmates gave me the pseudo-award: Most likely to file ¿phone¿ under ¿F¿. Several years ago, I met and married my husband who was a widower with four daughters. I¿m in my element as a wife and mother to six daughters ¿ ages 7-21. I still play piano and teach a bit on the side. I¿m also learning to play violin. I work part-time in the public school system and also have a secret hobby of writing. In all, I¿m the consummate ¿Susie-Homemaker,¿ and I¿m happy to be here. In spite of my minimal involvement with campus life at Poly, I remember the kindness and friendship of many whose names and faces have remained fresh in my mind for all these years. I guess at the twenty-five-year mark, I have become curious to know whatever happened to those wonderful people. I¿d love to know. . . Special thanks to Jack Lamb for never letting my awkwardness keep him from being genuinely kind to me. Humble apologies to Kellie Bartunik for an unkindness done to her, by me. May you find it in your heart to forgive me. Please drop a note if you care to. It¿s a little fun, eh?
