Rebecca's Story
Life
I have gotten BIG TIME into riding. We have two quads & a dirt bike and go riding in the desert every chance we get... jumping dunes & playing in mud!! Who says we ever have to grow up!!?? :) Life's short... play hard! I love being by & doing things in water... and want to learn to surf! I love sea kayaking... and hope to have a kayak of my own someday so I can get out & do it more often. I play OTL now... and love the break from reality it brings! Balance in life is a wonderful thing!!
College
I went to JC... right out of high school... probably like most of us... but I hated it... and I didn't have a goal.. so my motivation crashed. I got out of school... and worked in business full time. When I was 27 I went back to school... to the University of Phoenix... with experience in reality... giving me a basis to absorb everything we learn in college. It was very stimulating at that point.. because I was with other working adults who had very valuable experience in the workplace that they shared in class. I met a LOT of people... and networked like crazy. In case anyone didn't know... it IS... who you know. You never have to HAVE all the answers... you just have to know "How to get them!" College later in life really worked out well for me. However, I stopped... just 5 credits short of my Bachelors in Business Management... 5 undergrad credits is all I needed... credits in "underwater bee-bee stacking" would have worked. They could have been in anything... I just needed 5 credits. My dad always told me I'd never be anything without a college education... and if anyone reading this knows me... really... then you kno...Expand for more
w that was a challenge to me!!! So, I now manage a business, own my home, have enough money to "play hard" and have incredible friends!!! That's success in my book! ... and I'm still... technically... without my degree. (wink)
Workplace
I started at a hot dog place in Illinois when I was 15... and then we moved to San Diego. I worked at Millers Outpost & then fast food... for 4 hours (I quit... who wants to fry tacos for a living... ICK!!!). I worked at Savon for 2 years until I got out of high school... and then started at the bottom in business. I worked as a receptionist for a fitness company, then did teh same for Motorolla. I then moved on to a manufacturing company called Action Instruments... where I spent almost 10 wonderful years going from department to department learning business & growing in experience... from HR to accounting to quality, to hard wiring phones & phone systems... to handling security... to company events & and meetings. Then I landed my current job where I started as an HR rep & quickly moved into a senior sales position, and then management. I am currently Business Manager for a healthcare Staffing company in California. Its a great company & I have a great team!!
Military
None for me... had enough of that being a military brat. :) I always wanted to be a fighter pilot though... but a high ranking female officer in the navy told me when I was 13... that even if I came out top of my class in Annapolis... I'd never fly combat... because I was a woman. ...so I moved on to somewhere else I could make an impact in the world. Look at women in the military now!! :) If only I were 10 years younger!
