Rebecca's Story

Life I have lived 1000 lives! I just couldn't stand the thought that there would be paths that I longed to travel, but didn't dare. I learned to fight back...speak up...and trailblaze. I don't live with many regrets...just that I wish I could keep up with all the souls with whom I have shared my journey. I went to college (many times), I got married and divorced (twice), I had my son (just one...delivered him C-section in a Mexican Missionary Hospital-try to beat that one!), I served my country (USN), I played sports (WNFL Football, Pro Boxing, SDSU Basketball, and Navy Softball), I became a teacher, traveled around the world and back, lived in the Philippines for a year (not while I was in the Navy), I have taught in three states (soon to be four), I have fallen in love hundreds of times (but never out, with each experience leaving an indelible mark on my life), I have grieved the loss of many people in my life (my grandparents, aunts, uncles, shipmates, friends, co-workers, students and my dad), I have found my soulmate (together, we will grow old), I have seen my son grow into a man (attend college and begin dating), I lived in Las Vegas (twice...something everyone should do), I have surfed, parasailed, snorkeled, fished the open sea, caught a shark, waterskied (not very successfully), windsurfed (always be sure you know how to get back to the shore), ridden a wave jammer (never again), navigated many rivers on a tube or Kayak (sometimes I was even sober), I have protested and campaigned (for many people and many issues), I have thrown a million BBQs at my house, I learned to speak Spanish, I have taught over 20,000 different students (sometimes about English, sometimes about athletics, but always about life), and I am still going strong. Maybe I should throw less BBQs because at my age the poundage is getting harder to keep off, but maybe I will just exercise more so I can eat what I love. Never let it be said that I didn't live life, for I have lived a 1000 lives and plan to live 1000 more. Nothing but love for ya! es of my teeth. My son walking with me through graduation. Sleeping in my Cougar on the beach and surfing in P.B. with my buds from Spanish class. Time spent chillin' at the Padre games, Friday nights at Monty's Den, Pow-wows in Ramona, running the steps at Montezuma Stadium, hanging out in the Wesleyan SS with Jay, smokin' on the boardwalk with friends by the roller coaster, skateboarding to class down the "hill", concerts on the lawn, going to British Lit class in Jams and a tank top (the horrified looks by the professor), sleeping on the lawn in the SD sun, beer frames, street parties in Mission Beach, working at Sea World, Modern Lit Class with our crazy prof, and riding the bus with my dad just to chat (RIP, Dad). Texas A & I- Kingsville- Lots of days hanging out with Lisa and "Nayber", going to Schiltterbahn, BBQs at the ranch, beer bashes in the cabin, the Fierro (so ghetto), Lisa, the Fiero and the beach at Corpus Christi (hehehe..that cop will never forget either), Kim's Head-Banging fits, Jerry's first day of school, weekends in Corpus at Buddy's, trailer at the lake, showers in the moonlight at the ranch, bottle rockets and angry cows, bowling at the base, trips to SA with Lisa, the black mini dress (hehehe) and big hair, The Country Luau, softball games with SSS, camping out in the financial aid line, our welfare Christmas, MadDog 20/20 and Katie Lang CD in the park (ickkkkkkk), teaching Jerry to ride a bike in 8 degrees ice, the trashy trailer and the pay phone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rocky Horror Picture Show full participation, the Writing Skills Center gang, bowling class, football in the mud, the Schandell’s, football games, after-parties, Jerry dancing at Six Flags-SA, student teaching classes, HEB folks, The Kingsville Mall (haha), my first students, and game nights in the apartment. I have lived my life to the very fullest. I once wanted the approval of others, but now just hope that they enjoy the piece of the road they share with me. Finding real love in a supportive relationship, seeing my son grow up into a good-hearted young man, and renewing my participation in an open church community have been among the greatest joys in my life.
